Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

russia bans Roblox and Snapchat. Significant?
Well they're not wrong to ban Roblox, on general principels.

As for significant... Ukrainian propaganda is claiming that unrest and anti-regime sentiment are growing in Russia, sparking an increase in sabotage and intelligence leaks. Roblox and Snapchat are probably services where conspirators can communicate with each other, outside of Moscow's ability to monitor. Banning the apps closes potential comms channels between pro-Ukrainian partisans, between them and Ukrainian intelligence, etc.

Whether that's significant, and if so, significant of what, is up to you to decide.

Putin says Russia will take Donbas by force or Ukraine's troops will withdraw

President Vladimir Putin has warned again that Ukrainian troops must withdraw from Ukraine's eastern Donbas region or Russia will seize it, rejecting any compromise over how to end the war in Ukraine.

"Either we liberate these territories by force, or Ukrainian troops will leave these territories," he told India Today. Moscow controls some 85% of Donbas.

Putin treating the US envoys with open contempt.
And no response from Trump. Maybe those golden shower video rumors are true.

Pessimism is on the rise in the Donbas. Perhaps The Don had a point. The Russian approach of quantity rather than quality has been bringing results, and the below video shows how. Caolan Robertson visits the frontline, and is shocked by how it's changed since his last visit.
It's another excellent film which includes some history of the area, and some human levels issues.

Putin wants the whole Donbas by spring.

If there's plenty of fog, Ukraine has little defence.

That's the bad news. There looks to be plenty of good news as well, with Russia suffering blows to its economy, but don't forget that Putin will gladly drag his country into the stone age if it brought him the result he wanted.

On Sunday night, Donald Trump claimed Volodymyr Zelensky had not read the latest proposal on how to end Ukraine's war with Russia.

Speaking to reporters in Washington at the Kennedy Centre, Trump insisted that Zelensky's "people" - who have been holding talks in Florida with US officials - "love" the plan.

"Russia's fine with it," Trump remarked. "Russia's you know, Russia I guess would rather have the whole country when you think of it. But Russia is, I believe, fine with it, but I'm not sure that Zelensky is fine with it."

Ukraine is preparing to present a revised peace plan to the White House, as it seeks to avoid making territorial concessions to Russia.

Kyiv is set to propose alternatives to the US after President Volodymyr Zelensky again ruled out surrendering land, saying he had "no right" to do so under Ukrainian or international law.

The absence of any preparations by Moscow to slow the tempo of its military operations in Ukraine - where it has more than 710,000 troops deployed along a 780-mile frontline - is perhaps an indicator that Putin is anticipating more not less war.

Sky's Deborah Haynes outlines several possible scenarios as peace talks over Ukraine show little sign of progress - including the need for Kyiv's European allies to prepare for the genuine possibility of conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian forces destroyed 20 fuel tanks — 70% of the total — in a drone strike on Russia's Temryuk Seaport in Krasnodar Krai on Dec. 5, the General Staff reported Dec. 8.

The Dec. 5 attack sparked a large fire at the Temryuk Seaport, a facility that handles various types of cargo, including liquefied natural gas used to supply the Russian military.

Burn it all...

The US has proposed Ukraine withdraw from the eastern Donetsk region and create a "special economic zone" in the areas it currently controls, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Unfortunately I feel it's only a matter of time before Trump sells out Ukraine to Russia. Most times Trump gets "frustrated" it's with Ukraine rather than Russia. Trump seems to be getting more and more upset that Ukraine won't just buckle and give Russia what they want in hopes that he gets a Peace Prize because Trump's a fat sack of useless ◊◊◊◊.

So instead of surrendering territory to Russia, Trump proposes surrendering it to him.

Not so much a peacekeeper as a piece keeper.

Ukraine isn't Trump's to sell out to Russia. Both Ukraine and the rest of the EU have some say in the matter.
