Cont: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine part 9

Zelensky is in the US discussing an end to the war.

I have $10 on Trump slagging him off after the talks when Zelensky refuses to accept Russia’s Trump’s proposal.

I'm pretty sure Trump's idea of a 'fair' settlement is to divide Ukraine into three parts, one for Trump, one for Putin and one for Zelensky. What could be more equitable?

I just had a good and very productive telephone call with President Putin of Russia prior to my meeting, at 1:00 P.M. today, with President Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The meeting will take place in the main dining room of Mar-a-Lago. Press is invited. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

No point starting until you've been given your orders.

Q: Some are saying that Russia's recent attacks on Ukraine show Putin isn't serious about peace

TRUMP: I believe Ukraine has made some very strong attacks also. I don't say that negatively. You probably have to. There have been explosions in various parts of Russia. I don't think it came from the Congo. I don't think it came from the USA.

Report: Lost Russian Ship Was Carrying Nuclear Submarine Reactor Parts

The special cargo aboard the Russian arms ship that went down off Cartagena last year was not what its crew initially reported, according to Spanish outlet La Verdad. The blue-tarped objects on the vessel's stern were likely naval reactor components, unfueled and potentially headed for North Korea, national authorities determined.

Trump: I don’t like it. You know who told me about it? President Putin. That’s no good. I stopped the tomahawks. I didn’t want that.

It's one thing to be offensive because they're offensive. It's another thing to attack his house. It's not the right time to do any of that. I was very angry about it.

Russia is at it again, using dangerous statements to undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with President Trump's team. We keep working together to bring peace closer.

This alleged "residence strike" story is a complete fabrication intended to justify additional attacks against Ukraine, including Kyiv, as well as Russia’s own refusal to take necessary steps to end the war. Typical Russian lies. Furthermore, the Russians have already targeted Kyiv in the past, including the Cabinet of Ministers building.

Ukraine does not take steps that can undermine diplomacy. To the contrary, Russia always takes such steps. This is one of many differences between us.

It is critical that the world doesn’t stay silent now. We cannot allow Russia to undermine the work on achieving a lasting peace

America spends billions on national intelligence but instead of asking his CIA Director or National Security Advisor whether it happened, he's just like, "Putin told me it happened so I believe him"

Putin has got a big box of chew toys to throw to Trump whenever he needs to distract him,

Over the past 10 months, Russian losses in the war with Ukraine have been growing faster than any time since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, BBC analysis suggests.

Just seen that.

The article suggests that the methods used by the BBC to confirm the number of deaths may only identify 45-65% of the total, meaning that the real figure would be be between 243,000 and 352,000. In comparison, the UK lost around 383.000 military personnel in World War 2 - as a percentage of population that's significantly higher, but the Russian numbers are still shocking and span a shorter period of time (assuming that the figures represent deaths since the full invasion in 2022).

I should point out that when I say shocking, I mean in terms of pure numbers. When you factor in incompetence, corruption and a general disregard for human life, all part of a culture formed over years and originating from the very top of government, they're perhaps not so surprising.

Has Putin stayed his bombs away from Zelensky's residence, or is that irrelevant?
It's irrelevant to me. I see war as about winning or losing, not playing tit for tat. If Ukraine thinks they can win by catching Putin at his lake house with a cruise missile, it doesn't matter at all if Russia hasn't tried something similar yet.

"You know what honestly causes confusion and, well, uncomfortable feelings? That representatives from India, the Emirates, and several other countries condemned supposed drone strikes on Putin's residence that never even happened. But where's their condemnation? By the way, condemnation of the fact that they're bombing our children and killing our people this whole time. I don't hear anything from India or the Emirates about that, to be honest," - Zelenskyy said to journalists on Tuesday, Dec. 30.

It does matter, because somehow, it is a crime if Ukraine does it, but Russian allies do not bat an eyelid if Zelensky is attacked.

FM Lavrov: Moscow is grateful to its friends and partners for condemning the terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against the state residence of Russia's President.

This incident reaffirms the terrorist nature of those unlawfully holding power in Kiev

Targeting a hostile county's leader may be considered a war crime, if the leader doesn't hold military rank and isn't actually commanding operations they may be considered a civilian under International Law. If anyone else thinks that there's something wrong with someone like Putin sending hundreds of thousands to die on the front line of a war of agression while potentially being protected,, join the club.
