Cont: The Russian invasion of Ukraine part 6

Ukraine had sucessfully defended Kyiv by the time Western aid started pourijg in to the country. Where Western arms has really helped is in the counter-offensive.

Western intelligence played a bit role in the initial defense of Kyiv. Had Ukraine been caught off guard there was a legitimate chance the Russian assassination teams sent to Kyiv would have been successful and much of Ukraines government would have died in the first couple days.

There was also a lot of training from western allies after 2014. The UK played a big role here. In the case of the US, strong partnerships were formed with the California national guard, which just seems funny to me.

ETA link and one more thing. The connection to the California guard goes back to 1993.

Zelensky visits Biden and speaks before congress. Much support and whatnot. R members even talk of seizure of Russian assets in US holding.

Pootie's little helper responds by saying that they somehow totally failed to discuss Russian concerns. He is very unhappy.
Duh, the main concern there was to help drive Russia out of Ukraine.

There are too many potential suspects in this line up, care to point them out by name for those of us that haven't kept up with whichever illinformed malcontent has ran their mouth in the last twenty-four hours?

I didn't catch the name but he was a close advisor to pootie. Does official press conference stuff.

When I read your posts, I get the impression that most of you are convinced that that it is the Russians (and Putin especially) who created most of the trouble (uprising, civil war ...) in Ukraine, with a goal of territorial expansion.

However, we know that Russia does already have a very large territory, even after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

So Putin should "have no more territorial demands to make in Europe" as Russia has enough lebensraum.

This Twitter post has no source. Could it perhaps be fake news?

Entirely plausible. Even more so because it claims that its source is Russian Telegram reports, which are fundamentally not to be trusted as proof. Taking things a bit further, it's entirely plausible that this whole thing is a random Ukrainian ploy to try to start a panic. There's reason why I added caveats throughout. This is the kind of thing that shouldn't be trusted blindly.

After Putin called the invasion a war, I can see how a run on banks would follow. Once the invasion is a war in Russia, new legal powers follow. It's not hard to imagine people wanting their money out. I'd like to see more reporting but taking a lot of cash out is logical step if you're a Russian.

But it the Russian paratroopers were upset and frustrated so it's the victims' fault...

In happier holiday news, a military complex in Moscow was set on fire and there are reports it was destroyed.

'WE ARE SO ****** RIGHT NOW' THREAD
1) 2023 is coming and what are the results? Well, there is a single thing I can say about Russia’s near future. This country is ******. Not “showing the symbols of decay” or “bleeding occasionally”. Not “close to collapse”. ******.

2) Let's agree on the terms. "******" means there is no chance left for some clever stunt to pull in the very end and save everyone. Whatever happens next, is happening and there is no undo button

Any argument that Ukraine should be helped because the situation is so dire is an argument for extracting a greater payment for aid because they are motivated to pay.

How many natural resources could Biden have annexed from Western Ukraine rather than use taxpayer resources?

Ah. I didn't get it at first. You're saying Ukraine's desperation presented an opportunity for the West to to price-gouge on all those Javelins etc. I get it now.

People at soup kitchens lack the ability to pay.

Do you doubt Ukraine's ability to pay? Could they have agreed to transfer 3% of western Ukraine to the US if a certain level of military success was met?
You propose to offer them the means to recover some of the invaded percentage of Eastern Ukraine and your price will be a percentage of Western Ukraine.

I do wonder how they'd feel about that.
