General UK politics VIII - The Last Tory

It seems for some reason the bots have been told today to blame Starmer and Labour for Covid and rhe lockdowns.

I can't see any news stories that would have made them all think Labour were in power through Covid and the lockdowns.

There is that as well. If it was down to me tnere'd be no second jobs, but MPs in careers that require professional practice to maintain their eligibility to practice should be allowed to put in the necessary hours for public service or charity operations. For barristers, arguably, randomly assigned clients could count.
Very few jobs require professional practice, some require CPD but I can't think of any that require you to be always working to retain your status.

Apparently teaching does. Why else wouldn't Jonathan Gullis be able to get a job now he's no longer an MP? [Checks Notes] Oh sorry, my mistake, it's because he's a hate filled, right wing ◊◊◊◊ gibbon.

Starmer was responsible for Queen Elizabeth's death, the Great London Fog of 1962, Chamberlain's Munich disaster, and the infamous Treaty of Versailles. It is simply a continuation of "flooding the zone with ◊◊◊◊ ".

The Daily Mail is reporting that newborn babies could be allocated a Digital ID.

Sinister. Sick. Immoral. Un-British. Dangerous.

I will fight it in Parliament.

Today's Gammon outrage

The Israeli flag is either missing the star of David or not there at all.
A whole swathe of accounts repeating it.

Someone must control all of them or they all get told what the days outrage is going to be.

There's a second camp though, Reform accounts are complaining that the EU flag was included in the display.

Example

Darren Grimes
@darrengrimes
Why fly the EU flag at our fireworks display? Why flag any foreign flags at our fireworks display? Sadiq Khan and Labour continue to tell us that what our ancestors forged, engineered, fought and died to build isn’t worth a damn — ideological multiculturalism matters above all.

Why do Nationalists always seem to have Nazi sympathies?

#otd 2 January 1941

Llandaff cathedral was damaged by German air force bombs and 165 people were killed.

Wales had been dragged into the war by Westminster.

Cardiff was targeted as it was one of the biggest coal ports in the world.

Their parents will assign them an alphabetical ID soon, Rupert. A multipart long one if they are toffs. And a short epithet re dog droppings for people like you.

Aren't they allocated an NHS number at birth anyway? And I'm pretty sure my birth certificate has a number on it. Not to mention NI and driving licence numbers later. Is it 'digital' they find so frightening ?
It's stunning ignorance is the problem.

As an aside, it is likely councils and governments have been storing peoples' information in electronic format, I.e. digitally, since the 1950's. That’s about 70 years now. If you count punch cards, it will be a century or more.

EMIS was established in the late 1980's providing patient management software.

I'm reminded of a startling argument against the 'dehumanising' effect of ID numbers.

A student in one of my Philosophy tutorials said something along these lines:

"My name is Anne Smith. There were seven Annes, in my class in first year high school, and four 'Anne Smiths' at the school at the time."

"5947XPBY323256 is a single, unique name, that belongs to me, and only me, it is much more personal than 'Anne Smith'."

As a person with an insanely common first name and relatively common surname, I share her view.
(At one stage, one in seven people in the UK had one of the recognised spellings of my surname.)

:)

It also reminds me of a Wizard of Id comic:

King: How are you today soldier?
Soldier: All I am is a number.
King (to Sir Rodney): Who was that man?
Sir Rodney: 387456 Sir.

Gammons busy explaining why the Ftse250 being up 8% over the last 12 months and the FTSE 100 breaking through 10,000 points for the first time is terrible and means Starmer is finished!

Why would the US breaking international law make China and Russia think twice about breaking international law?

This is what happens when your paymasters Putin and Trump collide

Nigel Farage MP
@Nigel_Farage
The American actions in Venezuela overnight are unorthodox and contrary to international law — but if they make China and Russia think twice, it may be a good thing.
I hope the Venezuelan people can now turn a new leaf without Maduro
