That only applies to foreigners, these parachutists were British therefore fundamentally honest and consequently exempt from border checks.

That's right. They didn't need passports in 1944!

Actually, they also wouldn't have needed them in 2014 if we had been in Schengen.

Tories now level with a bunch of far right grifters with no actual policies. Wow.

Westminster voting intention

We're more than happy to let Brits in without passports as long as they're prepared to wade the last 50 metres under intense artillery and heavy machine gun fire. It's only fair.

Probably less dangerous than wading 50m in our polluted waters.

It depends. Has the news of the social media plan for everybody to **** in the Seine before the Olympics made it into the UK media?

Not so sure about that. East Malling was always the far side of the woods and the North Pole pub was the boundary marker between civilisation and the great unknown #localreference

I think Dad hadn't been along North Pole Road in about 70 years living in Tonbridge and with another 10 when his parents were but not him until we drove back that way from hospital a few weeks before his death.

Pretty much all North Pole Road is "here be dragons" as far as I am concerned.

Lots of gammons and Tory MPs posting their outrage that French customs officers checked the passports of the parachutists that landed in Normandy as part of the commemorations.

They hate us for saving them, an insult to the memory of the brave British troops, Cowardly surrender monkeys etc.

So not controlling their sovereign borders then?

Absolutely the wrong look for Monsieur Bertillion douanier à l'aéroport d'Orly to be demanding the passports of specially commissioned parachuters engaged for the auspicious event with the agreement of France, USA and UK for the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day (the Normandy landings). Nous l'oublions pas? Nous non plus.

Sort of.

Still sounding good compared to the Thames or Windermere though

They are foreigners entering the country from abroad, they need to be checked.

Labour only 6 points behind Rishi in his Richmond and Northallerton constituency. Unheard of, it's as 'true blue' as they come,Solid 'heartland'

A split by Reform and tactical voting by Greens and Lib Dems will see Rishi lose his seat.

Cons 37.3%
Labour 31.6%
Reform 14.3%
Lib 8.5%
Green 6.7%

Oh dear FSM, please make it so.

Stephen "Tommy Robinson" Yaxley-Lennon has shared an AI picture of troops advancing into the sea on D-Day. My theory is he heard of "The War in the Atlantic" and thought it was "The War on Atlantis".

Exactly, sovrinty innit.

Contrary to many gammon assertions the EU is a very long way from being a 'papers please' environment.

I am a UK citizen legally resident in an EU (Schengen) country. Although I am legally obliged to carry my passport at all times, here in Spain I don't bother. On the 1 or 2 times I have needed to prove my identity - never by the po-po - my biometric Residencia card suffices.

Although as a non-EU citizen I have am supposed to adhere to the 90/180 day rule, in practical terms I don't. When traveling through Schengen, by road, rail or plane I haven't had to show my passport once. No one is going to know how long I've been in a Schengen country where I don't reside. It's just like a long trip across the USA. No state borders.

Mark Harper on BBC Question Time repeats Rishi Sunak's lie about the £2,000 Labour tax.

Fiona Bruce calls him out on it.

Harper doubles down.

Fiona Bruce reads out the letter.

Harper triples down.

Shabana Mahmood jumps in and calls him out.

You can see Harpers knows he's telling lies and yet he blunders on with no shame.

I don’t get it. They’ve decided to keep the tax lie rolling even though it’s being called out as a lie by everyone including The Spectator. Who’s responsible for the campaign management?

Oh dear. At this rate, Rish! will just have to resort to doing a Tony Blair and drag out the wife and kids - and dog - for a few corny photo shoots.

A dog will go down well with voters.

Sunak leaves before Omaha beach commemorations, for an ITV electioneering interview.

He'll never hear the last of this.

The Guardian - excerpt:

"Tim Montgomerie, the founder of the grassroots Conservative Home website, told BBC Newsnight: “I want to put my head in my hands. If he came back for a political interview from the D-day commemorations that is indefensible."
