Mass shooting at Bondi Beach

Just a couple of reactions from me.

To those who take a single still image of a female police officer to attack NSW police and women in general with accusations of cowardice.

◊◊◊◊ you.

To those who seriously suggest more guns is a good idea

◊◊◊◊ you.

Anyone who wants to join in on “it’s all faked”

◊◊◊◊ you.

To those who want to use this to push your pet political grievance.

◊◊◊◊ you.

Ok…..I feel a little better for that.

To be clear: You can't simultaneously say that a murder was inevitable, and that you blame the murderer. If this were a one-off, I might charitably assume that you meant to blame the murderer, and didn't really mean "inevitable" in the full sense of the word. But I've been following your rhetoric on this subject for quite some time, and it's pretty clear that when you cough up such rhetorical contradictions as this, you mean for them to be resolved in favor of inevitability, not personal responsibility.
Well thank you for the psychoanalysis. I'm so glad someone knows what I think better than I do.

Why don't Australians just make it illegal to murder Jews during Hannukah? Are they stupid?
It is illegal to murder Jews during Hannukah. It's also illegal to murder Jews during Purim or Rosh Hashanah. It's also illegal to murder Jews on days that are not Jewish holidays. Believe it or not, it's even illegal to murder people who aren't even Jewish on days that are or are not Jewish holidays.

It was reported the father was in a gun club. This is one way of getting a weapon, probably the easiest. Hopefully this loophole will be plugged.
Agreed. But I doubt it would be changed. About the only reason a person should have a gun is because it is job requirement. Changing other things, like having to be an Australian would not have prevented what happened. The son was born in Australia.

Ironic that the fact that the father is in a gun club- which may be the 'easiest' way to have gun ownership (but it is still far from a 'are you breathing? fine here's a gun' process that seems to be the US standard mind you, and takes a LOT of background checks) also makes it HARDER to actually access those guns for random 'spree killings'- as almost all 'gunclub owners' also keep their weapons at the range- but that makes them far less accessible than if they were in a gunsafe at their house- AND taking them 'off premises' is a lot more hassle too...

The fact I've seen quoted is that one of the shooters (not sure if it was the father or if it was the son) was known to ASIO.

That's another huge ◊◊◊◊-up by authorities, not just gun laws needing amendment.

The son when he was a teenager.

I think you have to wait to see if it was a screw-up by the authorities.

Nobody said all guilt lands only on males, nor did anyone suggest that females are saints incapable of violence.

It's true, however, that over 80% of all recorded violent crime is committed by males. Planigale's post was an accurate statement. Violence is mostly a male issue. Not exclusively, but mostly.
Records != reality. Or did we solve that "under-reporting" problem already? And that's just tip of iceberg when it comes to such things. Also good evidence is MIA.
And I'd like to note that not every police is distinguishing genders in official statistics. I looked at Czech stats and no breaking it out either for victims or perpetrators.
Bollocks.
Your belief is bollocks. Can't stop you from believing in falsehoods and ignorant crap, but don't be surprised when reality will ignore you and your false beliefs and kick you in the behind.

BTW: It's surprisingly pretty hard to find any good reporting/statistics on female criminality. (I am pretty sure that I found sole meta-study that Emily's cat is using as sole source for number)

And lastly be really careful with such broad unbounded claims. World and history tends to massacre such claims with ease.

ETA: Forgot one more thing. Violent crime and violence are two different only partially overlapping things. Remember that.

This is a similar ◊◊◊◊ up to that which the FBI made with Tamerlan Tsarnaev (the older of the two brothers who bombed the Boston Marathon in 2013). The FBI knew Tsarnaev was dodgy, but never followed it up.

Hindsight is 20-20. What does "known to ASIO" mean in practice? How many other people are known, and did anything make the eventual shooter stand out from the rest ahead of time? What actions could have been taken?

But abolishing gun clubs for law abiding Australians is the solution.

Yes

And I say that as someone that was a keen shooter and member of two clubs.

Looking at it kow I don't see sny need for firearm ownership just for leisure.

All the most deadly gun attacks in the UK have been by people with legally owned guns.
I don't even see a need for firearms ownership by farmers and gamekeepers in the UK.

Also, there's a reason shotguns aren't classed as firearms in the UK and ownership laws are different. ( you don't have to show a need snd issuing a certificate can only be opposed by the police if they can show a good reason)

It's because the landed gentry and millionaire businessmen snd city types want them to go shooting wildlife. That should be outlawed as well.

Abolishing 'sport' shooting of grouse and pheasant would have a some additional benefits too.
