Except that this time it appears to be real. This satanic child sex abuse ring has been operating internationally.

Sex Crimes Squad Commander Jayne Doherty said police had so far found thousands of "abhorrent" images on devices seized during last week's raids.

"Police will allege in court that this international group were engaging in conversations and the sharing of material which depicted child abuse and the torture of children, involving symbols and rituals linked to Satanism and the occult," she said.

"Police will allege in court that the initial examination of those devices has discovered thousands of videos depicting the abuse of live children aged between five and 12 years of age.

"Amongst these deplorable images were also a number of videos depicting the sexual abuse of animals."

They're obviously not going to be going into a great deal of detail on the nature of the child sexual abuse material.

Be grateful for that.

I had a colleague who was unable to continue working after transcribing child abuse testimony from the recordings of their interviews.

She said: "It's bad enough to be vaguely aware that child abuse exists, but when you hear about it, inside your head, first hand, it's soul-destroying."

(The odd part was because she had to wear headphones to do the transcriptions, and that made the testimony even more real, and "inside your head".)

:(

Edited to add:

In case it's not obvious from the above, she was transcribing the recordings from the interviews with the abused children.

Apart from the bit arth quoted in the OP?
It only says that it was satanic, it is unclear to me whether this is used as a generic term for evil or whether there was some specific relationship to the Prince of Darkness? Were they Sabrina fans? Wiccans (i.e. not Satanists but would probably be grouped as such by Christians).

I got, from the article, that these were child abusers that posed children (and animals?) in satanic ritual-like scenes.
Not that they were a group of Satanists actually performing satanic rituals.

The source article alleges a satanic influence. It identifies child sexual abuse material and material involving the abuse of animals. How that qualifies as satanic appears to be a conclusion drawn by the police. The problem with that is that police agencies during the height of the Satanic Panic invented all sorts of symbolism and connection that they simply declared to be satanic without any evidence or any sort of further justification. The tutorial video circulated among police organizations was so untethered from reality that it now makes the rounds in underground film festivals as a kind of obvious farce. Hence I'm inclined to disbelieve any conclusions drawn by law enforcement regarding the alleged satanic influence of criminal acts. Law enforcement has proven itself quite gullible in believing so-called experts with no basis for their claimed knowledge. The evidence they have and the crimes alleged are bad enough. There's no need to taint the credibility of the indictments by alleging non-credible associations.

Good points, Jay Utah.

However, it's rare to find a functioning Australian believing in Satan, let alone a whole Australian police department.

I do think it's somewhat likely the perpetrators were delusional about satan, as well as being ◊◊◊◊◊◊ in the head in abusive ways.

It would not be hard to believe that the police want to cast the defentants in as bad light as possible. So they find photos of children dressed in a super-hero costum and say this is evidence of satan worship.
