Honestly, I don't think we are going to continue on the Trumpster Fire Trajectory and keep moving to the right...

Snipped for brevity, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. The first term ended with the Trumpers storming the capital and we have a person right in this thread downplaying it to the point of saying it was all a lie. That's 4 years of factual information being released and the details being known and he's still full-blown "It didn't happen like that and it's fine that Trump pardoned them". You think that's going to change? You think those people are going to move to the left or further to the middle? It's not happening. It's not even kind of happening.

I hope you're right, but I don't see any indication of that at all and the Trump apologists and nut huggers are going to continue that.

It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I think the leopards are going to go to town on faces so bad in the next four years that the Trumpster Fire will turn on itself. They might faction off into competing groups. They might go the Tea Party route and break away from the GOP. But I think any illusions of greatness are going to be largely crushed like cockroaches underfoot within the next 24 months.

Eta: also true that the last term ended with storming the castle. And they did that because their movement deflated hard over those four years, and the voters spoke. I'm seeing the upcoming four as being worse, and a similar reaction in 2028 with a similar ousting. Pretty sure a mortal coil will have been shed by then. So I'm watching Vance very closely.

My Finnish friend still keeps insisting that Democrats are entirely at fault for Trump, and "they are just as bad." Never clarifying how we are vorruot. How many years of Trump till we are "almost as bad."?
LOL

well the tea party was just a gop industry plant movement anyway. the broke away into the gop.

regardless at that point, who cares if they come around or not. the damage will have been done

The Ragin' Cajun, Carville, posted an op-ed that Democrats should basically do nothing and wait for everything to implode. They have no real leader nor power at the moment.

Not sure I agree, and not sure if I disagree.

"Allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight, and make the American people miss us. Only until the Trump administration has spiraled into the low 40s or high 30s in public approval polling percentages should we make like a pack of hyenas and go for the jugular. Until then, I’m calling for a strategic political retreat,"

Ya or they could stop.treating it like an episode of Survivor: DC, and strengthen themselves and figure out what the people they claim to represent actually want and need.

Oh, I'm not talking about mistakes. I'm talking about deliberate lies, deliberate deception, deliberate attempts to hide the truth. And no, most people still don't really know about it all.

After Liz Cheney's pardon, the fact that the congressional investigation was a fraud is clear.

Holy ◊◊◊◊ what in the ever-loving ◊◊◊◊ are you talking about.

We might have been a bit too condesceding on the personal level. Neve try to convince a MAGA dude. He is not going to ever need helathcare and will be dead before he is 65.

Flashback:
Trump is not quite as clever as Reagan or Reagan's henchmen, but he was not brilliant either. A better actor.

I have no recollection of 1980, but 1984 I did vote. Like now, I saw Reagan as a con man selling trickle down. My dad, not the most aware in politics, got conned with the rest. My mom did not vote. I told my dad: “you are not rich enough to get anything from Reagan.” He looked away, and we never spoke politics again. He had a small business in Florida. He could run a business and somehow deal with city and county politics. And he beat me in chess more than 90% of the time. One game at Christmas the last 10 times.

We can repair damage. We have done so before, many times, and will do so again. There is nothing Trump can do that cannot be undone. He is not a god. He is a weak man, and not very bright, who is riding on a wave of populist uprising that is already starting to implode.

Easy stance to take when you are a rich white guy who will be fairly insulated from the really bad stuff.

In his defense, he's right about a lot of it. What are the Dems supposed to do? They literally don't have any real power right now. The GOP controls all of the committees, both chambers and the WH. Sure they can obstruct a bit. They can bitch, they can moan, they can make noise during hearings and all that, but outside of that there's nothing they can do.

I don't find this to be true. There is a ton of damage, as I stated before, that he can do to our international relationships, economy, and the rights of minorities. That damage will not be undone. Some of it might be able to be undone in a few decades, but certainly not all of it. We're watching the status of the US on the global stage plummet. Other countries don't look at us the way you are looking at the US now.

They can stop voting with Republicans. Let the GQP completely own whatever mess is coming.

Set up or join support networks for the laid off federal employees and marginalized people being targeted by the administration.

Be out in public providing aid and solutions for scared and hurting people. That doesn't just put human faces on the people suffering. It shows the democrats providing tangible relief and solutions.

Counterprograming. Did you see those townhalls where Republicans are practically booed off the stage? The next day, there should have national Democrats at those same venues hosting town halls for local democrats where they can talk to those same people.

Show up at demonstrations. At union halls. At church BBQs. The VFW. Sporting events. ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ comicbook conventions. I don't care. Get out there where people gather.
