Ed The Fascism Checklist, Trump 2025

So, the president who 'just says things, it's all performance' calling for military occupation of large cities in control of the opposition, 'to fight crime'. That's not fascism right? It's not like he's done it twice already.
Besides, its not like he's called all democrats criminals repeatedly.

Is this from a spoof website? Because if it is genuinely a White House communication then the Congress should be having his unelected cabinet removed by force and all presidential communications channels shut down. Trump can stay, alone and unadvised, living in his own squalor the White House.

Well, I still don't think he's smart enough or well educated enough to actually be a fascist, but the difference between what he is, and fascism is not of much note. A distinction without difference.

I still largely object to the use of the term on account of:
A. There are other bad things and authoritarians than fascists. He is far more like Chavez than Mussolini.
B. It's pointless to call him a fascist as fascist has just been an ad hom since about 1948. Much like commie, I mostly just role my eyes when folks use the term.

ETA: He's surrounded by folks that are legitimately called fascists; the Catholic Integralists (essentially phalangists) and Common Good "Conservatives".

Just to be clear, do you view a president who has already used the military to occupy multiple American cities threatening another American city with war to be fascist in a general, non-academic sense?
 
I think I've finally figured it out, me trying to argue that trump isn't a fascist is basically me arguing that factoid doesn't mean trivia. Words move on, I should let them. Because, yes, he is an authoritarian and would be a dictator to the extent he can get away with it.
 
well the thread was a running checklist, right? idk how many boxes need to get checked before you go from authoritarian to fascist. at least, enough for you to comfortably let go of the not technically fascism angle i suppose.

I still remember a time when those comparisons involving Nazis were directed at one's opponent.
 
The Nazis called them "unproductive groups"

Some of the 1st laws the Nazis passed were called "Sanitary Laws" meant to take the homeless, the Gypsies, the LGBTQ and those born disabled off the streets and into concentration camps for extermination.

Now, now here you go again painting all the Nazis with the same brush, and you aren't being totally accurate, some of the first steps were simply involuntary sterilisation.

No wonder the world is in such a state with people like you saying such nasty and hurtful things about people just putting forward their opinions.
