Ed The Fascism Checklist, Trump 2025

if anything short of full blown nazism doesn’t bother you, i guess you can live with a clear conscience as long as you make sure nothing ever clears the bar.
It is a skeptics forum and it's okay to be critical of our perspectives and the language we use.

it’s just i find focusing the argument around technically correct language to sidestep the actual discussion an incredibly tedious form of skepticism. it’s the least interesting part of any debate but often takes up the most time and energy.

not an accusation of anyone in particular. whether or not that’s what any individual in particular is doing is up to the reader. and if you genuinely enjoy that kind of discussion, don’t let me stop you either.

Nothing to worry about if you are a citizen...
A U.S. Army veteran who was detained during the massive immigration raid in Ventura County last week said Wednesday that he wants “a full investigation” into how he could have been held behind bars for three days despite being an American citizen.

Results of investigation: It' sbecause Dump won and the US is a fascist dictatorship now.

That's why Trump's opposed to high speed rail. It's not real Nazism until the trains run on time.

Bolded = Valid. Italicized = Not valid.

Are you under the impression that all of Germany woke up one morning hell bent on killing Jews and other minorities?
No. I would say that most Germans, like Japanese, were innocent. I just need some details to convince me that Trump is going to order the construction of a Gulag. That is what my brother believed in 2017.

Remember, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck but hasn't actually looked at you and gone 'Quack' you're definitely not allowed to call it a duck. Until Trump invades Poland he's not a Nazi, he's just a very naughty boy.
My wife has two Republican friends who despise Trump. I have asked, but they never tell my wife why. And she will not ask for details.

This reminds me of people who were afraid of a B-movie actor in 1980. Come to think of it, maybe the connection with the entertainment industry is not just a coincidence.

Here maybe?

Migrants at a Miami immigration jail were shackled with their hands tied behind their backs and made to kneel to eat food from styrofoam plates “like dogs”, according to a report published on Monday into conditions at three overcrowded south Florida facilities.

The incident at the downtown federal detention center is one of a succession of alleged abuses at jails operated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (Ice) in the state since January, chronicled by the advocacy groups Human Rights Watch, Americans for Immigrant Justice, and Sanctuary of the South from interviews with detainees.

Dozens of men had been packed into a holding cell for hours, the report said, and denied lunch until about 7pm. They remained shackled with the food on chairs in front of them.

Would be nice if the media bothered to cover this, wouldn't it.
Any of our resident Drumpf supporters got any thoughts on this, by the way? Is it still laughably wrong of us to consider this a cruel fascist regime?
David Muir led the ABC Evening News last night with the death of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. However, at least the story you mention was covered *checks notes* not at all.

It's like calling Charlie Manson a 'monster'. No, he wasn't technically stomping his way through Tokyo or built from body parts....

So a z list ex-celeb is more newsworthy than ICE committing crimes against humanity. No wonder the republican party are getting away with mass treason so handily.

Apologies, I was on vacation.

Anyway, it won't be Trump. It will be Stephen Miller telling Trump what to do, and Alligator Alcatraz is only one step removed from Nazi Gulags and Concentration camps. It's a long road to get there, and we're about 90 percent of the way down it.

I think 90% is a little hyperbolic, but when you're walking the same path as the Nazis and stepping in their footprints it's pretty bad even if you are only a third of a way along. BTW, wasn't the 'misunderstanding' about what was significant between the 'waking up one morning' and the use of 'all of Germany' convenient..?

Truly amazing to see how much IS has degraded into inane political bias tropes. Of the ~2 dozen posts I read in this thread none show the least understanding of basic terms like 'fascism', 'nazi-ism' 'gulag'. Oddly all these "certain" atrocities ascribed to Trump have never occurred and likely never will. I doubt the sort of closed-minded religious zealotry demonstrated in this thread is is treatable; it's far beyond paranoia.

More germain to this forum, when some person or political party suggests an idea - I treat it skeptically - I question it, I look not just for associative evidence but for evidence suggesting causality before I conditionally accept it.

I'd be interested in any one pointing to THEIR post demonstrating a functional understanding of the term "fascism" and actual evidence of Trump's volitional acts that convincingly promote 'fascism'.

The rest of you might want to consider other forums. "InternationalGullibles" or FatalTDS" might be good search terms.

Let me guess, Trumplican SA Mann.

I don't suppose quoting Hitler in words and deeds (violent mass deportations) would be enough?

I think we're about to get another dose of the right wing insistence on word for word accuracy. There are certain people who are called Fascists, and certain people who are called Nazis, and it's true, Trump is not exactly them. And if a gulag is defined as cold and Russian, then obviously a hot concentration camp in Florida can't be one just because it's only gulagesque. When the enemy is involved, generality is fine. Everyone you don't like is woke, a communist, a radical, a traitor, an enemy of the people. But when the shoe is on the other foot, you need the kilt and the sporran, laddie.

Timothy Louis Hale-Cusanelli was sentenced to 48 months in prison for one felony and four misdemeanors he committed at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.

Hale-Cusanelli is perhaps best known for his Hitler mustache. A member of the US Army Reserves, he had a "Secret" security clearance and worked as a security contractor at a Naval Weapons Station in New Jersey. As documented in court filings, Hale-Cusanelli is a Nazi sympathizer, Holocaust denier, and white supremacist.

Hale-Cusanelli obtained an early release from prison in December 2023. He has, of course, been pardoned along with another 1500 or so of his fellow insurrectionists.

In the summer of 2024, Hale-Cusanelli was invited to give two speeches at Donald Trump's Bedminster golf course. The first was at a fundraiser for the Patriot Freedom Project, which was created to defend the January 6 insurrectionists and to cast them as peace-loving patriots. Donald Trump recorded a video in which he endorsed that event, saying "All of the people there, you're amazing patriots." At the second speech, Ed Martin presented Hale-Cusanelli with an award, calling Hale-Cusanelli an "extraordinary man" and an "extraordinary leader".

Hale-Cusanelli was invited to attend Trump's second inauguration, where he was photographed with Trump.

In December 2024, Trump said he was going to nominate Ed Martin as Chief of Staff for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), but decided instead to appoint Martin as US Attorney for the District of Columbia. When that appointment was opposed by Republican Senator Thom Tillis, in part because of Martin's ties to Hale-Cusanelli, Trump withdrew the nomination. Trump then appointed Ed Martin as DOJ Pardon Attorney, so Martin can advocate pardons for other criminals.

Rachel Cauley was a member of the Patriot Freedom Project board. She is now a director of communications at OMB.

Paul Ingrassia, speaking at a Patriot Freedom Project fundraiser in January 2024, said the real tragedy of January 6 was that "it was an opportunity for the deep state to finally remove its mask and begin prosecuting and jailing innocent American citizens like Tim, like so many of the people here today." The "Tim" to whom Ingrassia referred was Timothy Louis Hale-Cusanelli. Ingrassia served as Trump's White House liaison to DOJ, and now serves as White House liaison to the Department of Homeland Security.

I've only seen a few, pathetic attempts lately, based on semantics. "It's not fascism, it's authoritarianism.." It appears to me that MAGA/Trumpers know it is fascism and are fine with it because they are part of it.

Fascism is old hat. This is newer and better and more fascionable than anything. People come up to him on the street with tears in their eyes saying "I love the way you dictate, sir. My dishes are sparkling clean thanks to you!" Not many people know that because the failing radical fake press blew the truth away with their windmills

to me it’s that they can only define fascism retroactively. like, he’s not hitler and there hasn’t been a holocaust and until there is it doesn’t count, but what they’re missing is not defining traits of fascism while only considering the inevitable result.
