zd, that's not on topic...
Which doesn't change the fact that it is big business, and leeches off of society in general. Much of these so-called "modern diseases" of today, could probably be prevented with a simpler lifestyle.I am alive thanks to medical science. I rather appreciate not dying at age 10. My parents both would be dead if not for medical science. I rather enjoy them using up my inheritance.
Your statement is extraordinarily rude and tasteless. I know you will not apologize for it...but you really should.
Eh, I've been off my meds for almost twenty years now.Dennis needs his medicine again apparenly. I need a new keyboard. The kids ripped the comma key from it. I have to use a cotton swab to type a comma.
Evidence?Which doesn't change the fact that it is big business, and leeches off of society in general. Much of these so-called "modern diseases" of today, could probably be prevented with a simpler lifestyle.
Really? Oh, and did you know that the last time I went to the doctor (over eight years ago) they couldn't find anything wrong with me? Of course that didn't explain why I felt so crappy all the time and, that my body was falling apart. But, I ultimately figured it out on my own and feel much better nowadays. Thanks. It shows.![]()

I believe it was diabetes or, at least this is what the symptoms appeared to indicate ... frequent urination, numbness in the extremities (more so in the face), a burning sensation in the legs, a sudden loss in vision (the eye doctor was very concerned about it when I had my vision checked), feeling weak and disoriented much of the time, not to mention what I'm reasonably sure was a heart attack the year prior to my going to the doctor (I had already had these other symptoms for at least two or three years by then) which, of course the doctor would not believe. But then again it was more of a freak thing that happened, otherwise it would have probably taken much longer to develop, in which case I probably wouldn't be here to talk about it if it had. This was my wakeup call, however, and it expedited my trying to find a way to get a handle on it. So, by the time I got to the doctor I pretty much understood what I was dealing with. The problem was, it depended upon my taking a certain type of chromium (organically bound) which, the drugs companies had just begun to discontinue. So half the time I couldn't find it or, I was taking something else that didn't work or, I was taking something that was too strong and made me sick ... comparable to insulin shock if I were to guess. Of course the doctor wouldn't believe me on this one either, and that was about the end of that. I did manage to get things under control over the next five or six years, however. So ultimately what was it? Did you suffer from an infestation of mind flayers?
I think I have to agree that Iacchus choice of words seems, on the surface, to be a little insensitive. But might he not be referring to the prediliction for US senior citizens to go in for any new faddish - and extremely expensive - drug therapy, diet/exercise regimen, etc.,? I think those who target senior citizens with this kind of stuff in adverts deserve a little criticism. My parents both would be dead if not for medical science. And what does this have to do with Medical Science? You have to face the fact that you have an ageing and wealthy population and a lot of people are going to try to bilch them out of their life savings for a lot of treatments that are very questionable.
I can see this has the potential to drag this thread off topic (so what else is new?) but oddly, I agree with you in some ways. That's why I have a "living will" which stipulates that no extraordinary means will be taken to keep me alive if I have virtually no chance of recovery. Do you have something like that Iacchus? It will keep the C of MS from sucking up your children's inheritance. The Church of Medical Science is a big joke. About the only thing they're good for is sucking up everyone's inheritance. I don't have any children and I expect I will just crawl away and die somewhere when the time comes. And perhaps I could donate my organs to the ants and the worms? It's more natural that way, you see.I can see this has the potential to drag this thread off topic (so what else is new?) but oddly, I agree with you in some ways. But even as a derailment, it is not to the point. You agree that everyone is going to die. You agree that your "spirit" will no longer need your body. Why not then leave the parts of your body that can be used to people who need them to stay alive? Do you carry an organ donor card?

I do not believe you.Let's just say I have a natural aversion towards the health care profession in general. The body is perfectly capable of taking care of itself if, you will allow it to do so.I do not believe you.
You are going to question the awareness of a thermostat by a defintion other than your own, and then turn around and mis-apply that same definition to big businesses?
It is the people, not the big businesses. If you want to discuss that, name the people involved who are capable of making the decisions that affect "society in general".

Do you mean like the folks at Enron who, with all their bungling caused the electric rates to practically double within a year over here? Not to mention all the local power company employees who are getting screwed out of their retirement?I was just joking, really. But seriously, when you talk about "big business", you should talk about the people in charge of those businesses.
That's rich. What do you think life expectancy was two-hundred years ago? Well I'll tell you. It was in the twenties. Your wonderful self-caretaking body and that marvelous mind of yours would probably be dead by now.Let's just say I have a natural aversion towards the health care profession in general.
