which of those things was the young woman in question doing?

Well one you made up and one was about a man, so that seems like a bizarre question that doesn't really address the content of the post.

I mean, I understand why. But I'm trying to help you understand why people might disagree with your priorities when choosing your sources of entertainment in the hopes it might move this discussion beyond you being confused about why people disagree with your priorities.

... a rich old guy makes an unsupported claim about the paranoia of unspecified people, as reported in a tabloid.

Gripping stuff.

Questioning the lived experiences of a PoC while commenting on his age and disparaging mental health issues all without supplying evidence showing that his claims may be fallacious.

If I didn't know better that would come off as racist, ageist and abelist.

You're right about the Daily Mail though.

"Entitled" is a bit of a loaded word, no?
Is anyone "entitled" to a job?

Gina Carano was not fired. She was found to be violating her contract. She was warned about violating her contract. Her contract was not renewed.

In what way was Gina Carano entitled to have her contract renewed?

B+ for effort, D- for execution. Had to take points off for the laughably stupid overreach.

Let me know when one of the tabloids from where you get your news reports a Bigfoot sighting. That’s at least mildly interesting.

Those poor downtrodden Disney executives. How will they cope knowing that I disapprove of their actions?

I’m surprised they don’t have your sympathy. I guess it’s only privileged and wealthy people who also spout bigotry and conspiracy theories who earn that honor.

So no contrary evidence to the old rich guy's claims then ? Just a church lady finger wag and a quip about a tabloid. How very telling.

Why we even have an example of a translator bowing to those very same pressures to self censor that the author was talking about right here in this very thread.

Not sure why I need to provide evidence for an unsubstantiated claim that isn’t even a specific claim.

Weird conflation. But I guess you’ve got to work with what you’ve got.

Ohhhh, you got me!
No one is entitled to their job ergo no one can be unjustly terminated.

You sure you want to hang your hat on that peg?

While we’re hanging our hats on pegs, are you claiming that Carano was unjustly terminated?

Ohh. You were so close! Nice Strawman though.

Lets try again:

Gina Carano was not fired. She was found to be violating her contract. She was warned about violating her contract. Her contract was not renewed.

In what way was Gina Carano entitled to have her contract renewed?

no one can be unjustly terminated.

Given that it has been reported that Marvel Actors have a clause in their contracts that requires them to adhere to the Disney image and avoid controversy, would you agree that it is likely that Star Wars actors have the same clause in their contracts?

If so, would you agree that not having your contract renewed for violation of that clause is not being "unjustly terminated"?

Not sure why I need to provide evidence for an unsubstantiated claim that isn’t even a specific claim.

Cancel culture is stifling new writers is a pretty specific claim but it is understandable how it might make some people uncomfortable and cause them to immediately dismiss it on those grounds.

This limiting artistic freedom, it's good for society, right ? At least that's what Chairman Mao would tell us.

I'm so reminded of arguing with Confederate apologist.

"It's not about slavery, it's about state's rights!"
"Which state's right specifically? Because the Confederacy was only interested in one."
"No it's about state's rights!"
"Which one?"
"State's rights!"

Meanwhile, over in the UK.

'Cancel culture is stifling new writers'

Stay in your lane, people.

Even if he is right the genre he is talking about is only a sliver of published works.

That aside what evidence does he have - it seems to be nothing but an assertion?

But yet again not sure what is meant to be done about this, force publishers to publish books, criminalise certain types of criticism of the “literary” genre? Plus what has this got to do with so-called “cancel culture”.
