And yes non-US Jref members can and should vote. This poll is just to see who this community wants.

I'm curious, if only Jref members could vote for president who would win?
Prolly some nerdy technocrat who could fix the world but would be shot within a week of being sworn in (on a copy of the Constitution, mind you, not the Bible.)

...or Obama.

I never understood how people claim Not Participating in an election as a principled action. Of course, pragmatism is one of my core principles, so the fact that Not Participating in elections that are widely seen as legitimate has had exactly zero impact on the way future elections are run means that such an action (or non-action as the case may be) runs counter to my core principles.

Yeah, I can't tell which dann would prefer to elections: dictatorship or anarchy. Because everything in between requires some form of elections.
The article isn't without a point however you are right when it comes to pragmatism. The proof is in the pudding (actually it's in the eating but that's another thread).

If we look historically at societies and civilizations and we come up with some kind of metrics (HDI for instance) to quantify quality of life in civilization i.e. mortality rate, health care, oppression, disposable income, material assets owned, free time (not working), etc. then Western Democracies are utopias by nearly every metric.

I don't have any problem with criticisms of Democracy but refusing to participate seems to me to be the equivalent of Heidi Klum bitting her nose to spite her face because she thinks she is ugly.

I can't think of anything dumber for a worst possible reason.

Thankfully, democracy has given him that luxury. Not everyone has the opportunity to contribute to the decisions that involve his or her future. They must take what they can get.

Crikey, it's a close election so far, at seven all.

If only you could cast your vote in the real world anytime between now and November. It would give a chance for all Americans to cast their votes and guarantee a high turnout.

I, for one, look forward for the numbers above to change over the course of the next few months.

Maybe it could become a sticky?

I think it would be great if the window for casting votes was wider. Ideally, voting would begin as soon as all the party nominees and independent candidates are locked in.

I'd also love to see instant run-offs (because it would eliminate the spoiler effect while giving third parties a fair shot a becoming viable on a national level) and the elimination of the Electoral College (because it's archaic and stupid.)

Obama suddenly makes a breakthrough, 3 points ahead of McCain!

A shame we don't know who is casting the votes.

I'm not a citizen of the United States, but would vote for Obama if I were.

It's such a shame Ron Paul is out of the race. I'm sure if he were elected, the truth about how the Freemasons and the Bilderbergers secretly organised 9-11 to bring about the New World Order would be revealed at last!!!1

What you need to do is leave it open for a week, and then open up a new one next week. Sticky a message that contains the week-by-week tally.
