I'd also love to see instant run-offs (because it would eliminate the spoiler effect...)...
Is it possible to have instant runoff voting in the polls in this forum? I think those results would be even more interesting.

They're both relatively useless.

I'm waiting to see if Obama had a direct link to this Missoure/Jennifer Joyce et al, melee.

If he did, I'm swinging my Libertarian vote over to McCain.

I have some problems with Obama--for one thing, I'm an Illinoisan and would have preferred that he serve as our Senator for a while before going AWOL to run a political campaign--but at least he's reasonably intelligent, actually knows the Constitution, and has the ability to inspire people. Given the current mood of despair and anger in much of the U.S., I think that latter trait is more important than it might normally be.

And his running mate isn't George Bush in drag.

Vote for a new government. That's what I'd like to see happen. Enough is enough. Make a minimal government, laws and let it roll. I'm dead serious. I actually work with people on ideas to make this happen, and to create a specific and basic and adaptable reality that is better and not so closed a system as the one we have now.

You and I need to talk. In detail. As soon as possible.

Are you sure you work with people who can re-write the constitution and enforce it? Are there certain... medications that seem to make these people go away?

I listen, therefore, I am. :) Speak. I'm dead serious about a newer, vastly limited government structure. Libs don't have a tight, or reasoned plan of action.

I want the government, literally, voted out of existence-as it stands and exists now.

I am wrapped. Why is the Constitution the end all and be all? That's a smacks of talk akin to Bible thumpers. I'm not talking about trashing the entire premise. I'm talking about formulating a new plan of action, a limited plan of action.

This done in a rational format, with a rational and doable downsizing plan of action.

Why not? Why can't a change like this happen? Big government changes have happened since recorded history has been in effect. Why can't the Constitution be re-written? It was written wasn't it? It's been amended, hasn't it?

No, no meds. Just smart, concerned Americans who are willing to donate their time and effort to rally the citizens to demand a real change. Real change is not voting new faces in and out of the White House. Balance of power no longer exists the way it was intended... There are many things that are no longer in existence in the way that our Founding Fathers had planned. Our Founding Fathers were well and fine, for their point in time. I'm a lover, not a hater. However, their time has come and gone. We live in a different point in time, with different events and variables...

I could yap for hours. I'll keep it simple.

What if I told you there were much larger groups of equally smart, concerned Americans who are also willing to donate their time and effort to make sure your change doesn't happen?

And what if I told you that this country was nothing but many thousand groups of dedicated, often zealous, people, with lots of spare time, all doing everything they can to make sure the country looks exactly the way they want it? And that all of their visions for America are different?

And that in fact you and you friends are just blades of grass in a field full of them?

Things are the way they are for a reason.

The more the merrier. Go for it. It's not about more right, more wrong or power...

Case in point, there are hundreds of thousands of groups and people that want what they want. Understandable, and makes sense in its own way. That's part of the problem. Everyone can't have it all. People's desires to see their communities...the way 'they' want them are impeded by big, federal government. The same big, federal government that I'd like to see minimized - in large part, for that very reason.

Right, all of their visions for America are different. Why do we need "visions for America". Why don't we focus on "visions for each individual"? You can't match and meet everyone's vision. My object is to alleviate that pursuit. Free people up, stop tax burdening them...and let them pursue their own destinies, be that on an individual basis or in small groups or communities.

And that in fact you and you friends are just blades of grass in a field full of them?

Yup.

Things are the way they are for a reason.

Please articulate what 'that reason' is. I'll gladly listen.

applecorped, you should have put Paul there instead of this silly "Other - (Not voting, can't vote, etc.)".

I'll post more about this later, but for now, I'll simply say that I have never been so revulsed by the candidates running for office as I have this year. Both McCain and Obama have so sickened me, I almost want to follow Clive Cussler's example, and write in Richard Rodriguez for President. Yeah, he's a serial killer, a despicable waste of human flesh, but he's honest about what he is and what he believes.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say this is the first election you've followed closely.

This one has been pretty clean.

Sorry. I've followed them all since 1978, when I could first vote. Most of them have been nasty, but at least in most previous elections, the characters of those we were voting for, while not sterling, were at least tolerable.

McCain hung out with Charles Keating. Obama hung out with Bill Ayers. Sorry, I'm seeing these guys spending their time with people who openly were out to ruin the lives of others. And that's just ONE point.
