Trump's US Threat to Greenland (which belongs to Denmark)

Where does communism enter the picture?

Besides, taking over Denmark didn't automatically give the Nazis control of Greenland in 1940, but nowadays it might work as a way to distract from the Epstein files for a day or two.

Canada is probably like Australia. The GG has fully autonomous powers such as the power to block legislation or to dismiss the cabinet. Of course, if they used these powers against the advice of the PM then you could be pretty sure that the PM would call His Majesty and have the GG removed (unless the GG dismissed the PM as happened controversially in Australia in 1975).

Governor General has 'reserve powers' such as refusing to grant Royal Assent to a Bill, dissolving or proroguing parliament and dismissing the Prime Minister.
The Governor General also appoints judges and senators.

Canada’s senators are appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. They represent Canada’s provinces and territories in Parliament. Senators participate in debates in the Senate Chamber, work with other senators in committees and, when applicable, participate in discussions with their parties or parliamentary groups.

Since Confederation in 1867, Canadian Senators have always been appointed by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister, a process that remains the case today. However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau now makes his own recommendations following an open, arm’s length and merit-based nomination process.

Trump's Fixation With Greenland Has Ended Denmark's Love Affair With the U.S. (Wall Street Journal, July 23, 2025)

Many Danes never shared the infatuation of the Danish government with the USA.

Trump's Threats To Forcibly Take Greenland Have Turned Key Ally Against Us (Farron Balanced on YouTube, July 28, 2025 - 5:42 min.)
It seems like an eternity since Donald Trump was speaking almost daily about his desire to acquire Greenland from Denmark. And while most Americans might have forgotten about this due to the nonstop insanity of the administration, the people of both Greenland and Denmark have not, and they hate us for even having this man as our president to make these threats. Trump has completely destroyed our (!) relationship with the country, as a majority of them now hold unfavorable views of America, and over 40% view us as an active threat to their country. Farron Cousins discusses this.

I don't think it's true that Trump has destroyed your (!) relationship with Denmark, unfortunately, but it might not be wise to wear a MAGA hat (or a Make-Greenland-Red-White-and-Blue Land hat) if you go to Denmark or Greenland. And even though "a majority of them [Danes and Greenlanders] now hold unfavorable views of America," a majority of Danes and Greenlanders are still able to distinguish between Americans who support Trump and Americans who don't.
In fact, judging by the YouTube comments I think that Trump has managed to create unity in the world (especially among Europeans and Canadians) - against MAGA and everything it represents.

Denmark and Greenland are now enemy countries to be destabilized by the U.S.
From a long article:

Central sources: Men with tis to Trump are trying to infiltrate Greenland
Greenland is the target of influence campaigns meant to create rifts in the relations with Denmark, according to the Intelligence Organization of the Police.
The streets are covered with snow when an American man with close ties to the President of the USA and the White House lands in Nuuk.
The man is on a mission: During his visit, he will make a list of names of citizens of Greenland who support president Donald Trump's plans to take over Greenland.
The list is to consist of Greenlanders whom the American will try to recruit for a seperatist movemen in both Greenland and Denmark.
The man is one of at least three Americans with ties to Donald Trump who carry out secret influence campaigns in Greenland.
(...)
DR knows the names of the American men but has decided not to make them public to protect DR's sources.
(...)
According to one source,, he got Greenlanders in Nuuk to point out issues that can be used to cast a bad light on Denmark in American media.
(...)
- What we see is the use of soft power, influence and attempts to create internal rifts, according to a source.

I can't imagine that one of those three men isn't Tom Dans. Another one might be his twin brother, Paul Dans (see post 914).
It sounds much like the start of what the USA has been doing in Cuba for the past 65 years.

Denmark summons US envoy over claims of influence ops in Greenland (DW News on YouTube, Aug 28, 2025 - 16:30 min.)
Denmark's government has summoned America's top diplomat in Copenhagen over reports of US nationals allegedly carrying out "influence operations" on the island. Danish media say at least three US citizens with links to President Trump were attempting to promote Greenland's secession from Denmark and joining the United States. President Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to take control of the Arctic territory, which is largely autonomous but part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
We got insights from Ulrik Pram Gad from the Danish Institute for International Studies, DW Correspondent Jack Parrock, and Marisol Maddox, senior Arctic fellow at the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth University.

– Looking forward, there is anxiety that that Facebook algorithms etc will be be rigged to promote criticism of the relation to Denmark and favor US stories and narratives.
– This sounds like pretty flagrant behavior. It doesn't sound like spy craft that billionaires are walking around, making lists and giving out money.
This is either clumsy, or the United States doesn't care what people think.

Report says Americans undertook influence operations in Greenland (CBS News on YouTube, Aug 27, 2025 - 7:095min.)
Denmark’s foreign minister has summoned the top U.S. diplomat in Copenhagen following a news report that claims Americans connected to U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration planned covert influence operations in Greenland. The report came from DR, the country's public broadcaster.
Trump caught red handed in alleged Greenland covert operation (Times Radio on YouTube, Aug 28, 2025 - 16:09 min.)
“The Americans are actually deadly serious that they need, at a minimum, to keep Greenland in their sphere of influence… at the maximum, to make it a part of American territory.”Trump is allegedly trying to cede Greenland from Denmark for its mineral resources, sparking resistance for Greenland “not be part of America”, says The Times’s assistant US editor David Charter.
Denmark accuses U.S. of covert operations in Greenland (CBS News: The National on YouTube, Aug 28, 2025 - 2:09 min.)
Denmark summoned the top U.S. diplomat in the country to protest what Danish officials say is an unprecedented effort by people close to U.S. President Donald Trump to conduct secret influence operations in Greenland.

In that case there's not much to worry about: 65 years on and Cuba's still not part of the US. The only effect of all that is a large Cuban population in the nearest part of the US. So, I guess we can expect Greenlander refugees to head to Maine?

And be deported to El Salvador, or maybe Uganda?

The Florida Cubans are notoriously reactionary voters, due to the massive chip on their shoulder about communist Cuba and wanting to do the opposite of anything Castro-approved. I wonder what weird swerve Maine politics would take if it filled up with a large* number of anti-Greenland Greenlanders.

* Possibly dozens.

In an interview with DR News, Denmark’s national broadcasting corporation, former U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton suggested that Greenland could become a U.S. territory like Puerto Rico—under American control but not a full state.
A message to you, John Bolton:
Greenland 🇬🇱 will never be subjected to the United States – and Greenland will not become a “Puerto Rico 2.”
Greenland is our home. We do not wish to be Americans. We are Greenlanders – Kalaallit.🇬🇱
We welcome cooperation and dialogue, but only on our own terms – with full respect for our culture, our people, and our right to self-determination.
#StandwithGreenland 🇬🇱
With a short video (1:28 min.) from the interview.

I don't know if the interview can be accessed outside of Denmark.

A loud minority of revanchists demanding that the USA 'liberate' a country whose government the USA doesn't like has its uses.
One thing is Trump claiming that Greenlanders are victims of a tyrannical European regime. It looks so much better on TV if it's an actual Greenlander like:
Jørgen Boassen (Wikipedia)
We will become an independent state. We are only 56 thousand people, we cannot have everything, and the United States is our closest ally, regardless of who the president is, even if it is not Trump. I'm thinking of an association of some kind, like Puerto Rico
— Boassen to Il Post, 11 March 2025
Unfortunately for Jørgen Boassen, Greenlanders seem to be well informed about the kind of association 🇵🇷 has with 🇺🇸.

Jørgen Boassen (see posts 936, 608, 483, 457,436, 430 & 397):
Charlie Kirks grønlandske ven: “Han havde altid tid til at snakke med mig” (Frihedsbrevet.dk, Sep 11, 2025)
Charlie Kirk's Greenlandic friend: "He always had time to talk with me"

Jørgen Boassen i sorg: - Jeg vidste straks, han ikke ville overleve (Sermitsiaq.ag, Sep 11, 2025)
Da Charlie Kirk sammen med Donald Trump Jr. besøgte Nuuk, stod Jørgen Boassen som vært. Nu reagerer han på tragedien.
Jørgen Boassen in mourning: - I knew immediately that he wouldn't survive
When Charlie Kirk and Donald Trump Jr. visited Nuuk, Jørgen Boassen was the host. Now he responds to the news.

And an old one:
The other day, Greenlandic Jørgen Boassen got an unexpected message: »Hi Jorgen,« it said - today he got a special assignment
Jørgen Boassen was told to pick up a couple of Trump followers and meet Donald Trump Jr. at the airport.
Three days ago, Jørgen Boassen - a die-hard Trump supporter from Nuuk - got a message from the MAGA celebrity Charlie Kirk.
»He asked me if I could help him arrange something,« Jørgen Boassen says.

American fighter jets in the air over Greenland (DR.dk, Oct 10, 2025)
This week, American fighter jets were in the air over Greenland supported by Danish Defense.

If I were a nationalist, I'd be ashamed of this despicable display of cowardice and opportunism. I wonder what the people of Greenland think of it.
