General Israel/Palestine discussion thread - Part 4

In the meantime, Judeo-Fascist settlers commit a mini-Kristallnacht in the West Bank.

Three murdered, many more injured, cars and homes torched.

NO Jews charged. Police will do nothing. Just like in 1938 Berlin.

"Settler attacks on Palestinians throughout the West Bank have been taking place on a near-daily basis with near impunity, in what has sparked mounting sanctions from Western governments."

A reminder that some 850,000 Jews were either expelled or felt that had to leave their homes (in the Middle East and North Africa) in the decades following 1947 (i.e. following the decision to partition Palestine).

The notion that only Palestinians have suffered (and they clearly have and are suffering) is wrong and misleading. A two state solution should be achievable with goodwill from both sides.

Do you acknowledge that both sides will have and will continue to commit appalling acts?

UN Resolution 242 (1967), emphasizes that a peace in the Middle East should include "a just settlement of the refugee problem". This is an acknowledgement of the problem of Jewish refugees from Arab countries.

one side needs to demonstrate a lot more goodwill than the other at this point.

In terms of refugees numbers since 1948, then it's pretty much the same on both sides - the difference is that the Palestinian problem has been perpetuated. Some suggest that this has been deliberate and expedient on the part of Arab nations - they could have absorbed the Palestinians as Israel has absorbed the Jews (as other countries have too). Jordan took in many Palestinians in the past.

The framing of the problem seems to be woefully skewed.

An Australian court has ordered that an Islamic preacher's speeches are antisemitic and should be removed from social media.

The reason I wanted to put it here is that it also ruled that criticism of Israel and Israel's attack on Gaza is not antisemitic.

"Also, political criticism of Israel, however inflammatory or adversarial, is not by its nature criticism of Jews in general or based on Jewish racial or ethnic identity.

"The conclusion that it is not antisemitic to criticise Israel is the corollary of the conclusion that to blame Jews for the actions of Israel is antisemitic; the one flows from the other."

...

"The words he spoke were those from the scripture and he maintains he has the right to quote religious scripture, as all parties do," Mr Tabchouri said.

"The court has found he has that right. Further to that, the court has found that simply criticising what the Israeli nation has done in Gaza is not antisemitic, and that position has been affirmed by the court."

"Also, having three sites to deliver 1.8 million meals yesterday for 2.1 million people is inadequate." -- jimbob

I have a question --- is every man woman and child in Gaza eligible to be getting free (donated) aid and nobody needs to pay for food anymore? TheWorld™ is now responsible for providing meals for everyone in Gaza?
Is that the actual situation?
