• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Does 'rape culture' accurately describe (many) societies?

How do you prove intent? ( In a court of law, where the ban on porn has been invoked.)
Presumably the same way you'd establish mens rea for any other alleged crime. I'm not going to give you a seminar on how intent is proven in a court of law. Figure it out for yourself, or be forever in doubt that your criminal justice system can ever be just, or even criminal.

I guess not every display of the beauty of the human form is intended to sexually arouse.

I guess not every sex scene is intended to sexually arouse.

I guess we're not.
What if a scene including un simulated sex is intended to create disgust or sympathy? Is it still porn? I've seen Nymphomaniac and it did "nothing for me" nor do I believe that was the director's intent.

Sure, adults who look like children have as much rights to employment and free expression as adults who look like adults.
They do this in the USA. In the UK it's illegal on DVD and Blu-ray. It's not just that the actors look young - they are dressed to look underage and might use props to boot.
Legalise porn and reap the consequences...adults (or children for that matter) getting off on virtual child porn.

i think it's also worth noting that adult men from like 18-24 could possibly have a healthy and age appropriate attraction to women in the "teen" category of porn.

<snip>
That does bring up the amusing possibility of Pornhub being required to serve up porn which only features "age-appropriate" performers given the age of the user. An additional feature would be that you could access videos with younger performers if you have a large bank balance and/or flash car. :)

That'd be a consequence to whom?

I don't understand the question. "Intended to sexually arouse" seems like a pretty clear and well-bounded statement to me.

Okay then.

Okay then.
No your honor, I made this clown-porn for people who are afraid of clowns to help them get over their clownophobia not for people who are into clowns.

Judge: OK then, case dismissed. I guess.

ETA: and its extremely broad. If I post a picture of my nice big biceps I've been working on in my dating profile, do I need to go to court and prove it wasn't intended to sexually arouse someone? Because I mean, it kinda was.

I think "intended to sexually arouse" is a perfectly cromulent definition. Why don't you like it?

I see a lot of good potential in this definition. How many people have to testify to being sexually aroused by pictures of Donald Trump before we can ban them?

That's an interesting question, along the lines of would it be a problem if we created sex robots that men can beat up and rape?

Does repeatedly simulating a behaviour make it more likely a person will want to progress to another level once he has habituated to the current stimulus?

I don't think thats ever been actually established. How many hours of killing and violence have I seen in movies, TV, and in video games.... 10,000+ I'm sure. Yet, I have no desire to do so IRL.

And obviously, allowing someone to take out their rape fetish on an inanimate object is preferable to them doing it to a person.

You know someone, somewhere, rubbed one out to that.

Porn. Straight to jail.
More likely they made a deepfake - i.e. real porn.

There will always be grey areas at either ends of the scale - if you ban porn or if you legalise it. No one is going to win this argument.
