Can you beat Trump? Pick the WORST people for his cabinet positions you can think of!

Maybe by "home" he means home. As in the place parents live, not the country. Or maybe if they're ex-pats maybe family is the only thing that attracts them to their country of origin. People do move, after all. It might also depend on the political views in question. They may be over-reacting or being too polar, but on the other hand, if you expected on return home to be berated as a traitor to your country or your race, it would be a different story, I think.
Or maybe let the person who was asked the question answer for himself.

OK. I give up. How will the political views of these American ex-pats prevent them from visiting the country they are citizens of?
Technically, the have US passports.

This, pretty much. Their parents have become grade-A, class 1, tuberculin free, rabid, hardcore MAGA, while their offspring here utterly abhore the Orange Butthole. It has made for very strained Zoom calls. The ex-pats here don't want to take their young grandchildren back to the USA to be exposed to the MAGA cesspit in the family home now. I could also give more details on the ramped up religious fanaticism and vaccine denial, but you get the idea.

Outside the USA, some countries are on the other side of a spinning globe, in different time zones, you know?

But now he is endangering things most GOPers really care about, like defense and the Intelligence service.
What you might see is some behind the scenes attempts to sabotage a lot of his choices. The old "The King is being badly advised" routines.
The GOP used to care about such things, but then Trump was elected in 2016. They were sent to Putin and instructed on what they will care about from then on.

Wife of WWE CEO as Education Secretary. Who was previously sacked from a state education board for falsely claiming she had a degree in education.

So far, none of us has out-Trumped the Mango Bloat. He has continued to find the most amusingly inappropriate picks for his cabinet. Hammering square pegs into round holes for our amusement.

No one said it was your job. It does say quite a bit that you can't or won't defend the picks of your dear leader.

I'll try, Rubio is not a terrible choice? He's mostly moved toward trump on domestic stuff which isn't terrible for the secretary of state?

The secretaries are often just figureheads and spokespersons so the real damage will be done by Trump directly?

I read -- I don't think it was here -- that trump seems to be, not filling top positions in the government, so much as he's casting characters in a reality TV show. That's what his administration will be: a reality TV show. But as someone said, casting a reality TV show is something trump understands, whereas staffing a federal government isn't something he even has a clue about.

A national nightmare unfolding before our eyes. Scary!

Remember the old Simpsons Halloween episode, where at the end Homer and Bart find themselves on a rocket heading to the sun? This cabinet selection is reminding me of that rocket.

Good analogy. Let's hope every one of them gets voted off the island in the first week.
