Or maybe let the person who was asked the question answer for himself.Maybe by "home" he means home. As in the place parents live, not the country. Or maybe if they're ex-pats maybe family is the only thing that attracts them to their country of origin. People do move, after all. It might also depend on the political views in question. They may be over-reacting or being too polar, but on the other hand, if you expected on return home to be berated as a traitor to your country or your race, it would be a different story, I think.
