I can see why you are so disappointed. This career criminal adds nothing to Australia. He will no doubt do the same to NZ. Good riddance..

Given his entire life and criminal training took place in Australia and his parents are Australian, I can see why you support it.

Oh boo ******* hoo. A repeated criminal who didn't seek to get Australian citizenship due to stupidity is no longer our problem. And this is something we should regret?

We have enough Kiwi criminals in Australia already due to open immigration policies. Take one back.

While I agree with everything you've said, it is slightly concerning to me that we have had cases where people (with dual citizenship) have had their Australian citizenship cancelled due to crimes. Cancelling citizenship just seems, off...

It's not much of a jump to cancelling citizenship due to politics, i.e.

"You voted Labor"
"We have declared Labor to be a terrorist organisation because they're not right-wing enough."
"You have a grandparent who was born in England."
"Buh-bye!"

Historically, people who become 'stateless' have a really nasty time.

A hell of a lot of them did nothing wrong.

NB. If I recall correctly, one of the main reasons Australians wouldn't support the National ID card 'the Australia card', was that it would make it much easier for the Liberals to cancel peoples' citizenship, without having to actually cancel their citizenship.

i.e. If they cancelled your 'Australia Card' you could no longer exist in Australia (the way the ID was originally proposed).

Cancelling citizenship looks like a favourite tool of fascists.

The national ID card was actually an initiative of the Hawke Labor government. It was opposed (and eventually defeated) by the Libs.

And I don't recall any discussion about cancelling citizenship at the time. It was mostly an invasion of privacy issue.

I have to agree with psionl0 here (yeah, I know, it makes me feel weird too).

There's no need to feel ashamed. These are matters of fact rather than opinion. ;)

As a matter of opinion, I suspect that had the Libs been in power, they would have tried the same thing. They only opposed it as a matter of political expediency.

Yeah, me too. I must have slipped across another timeline.
Is it just me or is that starting to happen more and more often these days?
I don't think that you are alone. It seems like every time I blink, I suddenly find myself teleported into the future (with an older body to boot). :(

Well yes, but I remember this quite well. One of the reasons for the Australia Card was to minimise social security fraud. Back in those days I worked with the CES. This type of fraud was a national sport and the Australia Card would have helped. Pity it didn’t get up.

As I recall, after their defeat on the Australia Card, the government expanded on the use of tax file numbers to tackle this type of fraud.

I have to say, the humour value in your posts is worth posting the details for you to froth at the mouth about.

The guy is a Kiwi criminal.

Gold.

Is eggnog really a thing in this country? I have never encountered it in the wild, but that might just be my family.

I used to make it, and Paul's sell it at this time of year in the supermarket.

I bought some and had a glass before remembering I'm lactose intolerant. :(:o

It may have a tendency to be a South Australian thing.

I saw a national news story about South Australia being unusual in that we drink more iced coffee than Coca-cola. (One brand outsells coke even, and there are many brands).

As a kid, we used to hang out for December when the egg-nog would start to appear in the shops.

Adults add alcohol to it (I think) but as kids we used to just have it cold direct from the carton.

Here's a facebook post that suggests that Oak brand egg-nog is only available in South Australia:
