whois gives me 8-15-2022 as an expiration date now, so this looks to be taken care of for the moment.
This is interesting.I just did a whois on the domain name and it says the expiration date for the domain is 08-15-2022. Looks like someone paid the bill.
.Important Dates
Expires On 2022-08-15
Registered On 2014-08-15
Updated On 2021-08-10
It would then seem that the website http://www.cqcounter.com/whois/ (used by the opening poster) is giving inaccurate and out of date information.

Yes, that's right. I found (with some difficulty) the line:The last database update on that page shows as two days ago. Their information will probably update soon.
near the middle of the page for INTERNATIONALSKEPTICS.COM on the website http://www.cqcounter.com/whois/.>>> Last update of whois database: 2021-08-10T09:35:54Z <<<
That's good, but what problem are you trying to solve? There is nothing wrong with where it's hosted now on donated hardware.
Other than this occasional URL issue, what goes wrong here? Less goes wrong than with the original owner. There's really no convincing thing that the owner can do to improve the forum. And the primary problem in the past with getting change around here was simply failing to get agreement on what to change.
The issue is that there is no attempt to get new members. This means that the number of active members and new posts is going down. This has been happening for many years.
We've been over this before. I know you hate the owner because he won't do more favors than he already has, but that's your problem.
Cite one that was agreed upon as a good thing by the membership and is also likely to lead to growth. If you can cross that bar, which I doubt, then convince me it requires the owner to implement. And as to growth of the forum, if you were watching, Icerat went as far as seeking suggestions to help the forum grow. Suggestions that were completely ignored.
No, that is quite questionable. Members can advertise in multiple ways and up their game on the content they provide. There's no question the owner bears the responsibility for the life or death of the forum,...
It's the members that are asking for it to grow isn't it? Why the hell should the people who want something not be responsible for obtaining it?... and as has been pointed out, he was offered actual money for it and turned it down, so your thinking the members should be responsible for growing someone else's asset is highly amusing.
And please do tell what these favours Icerat has done so far.
If one of you two has a carrot up your arse, I'm betting it's not rjh.
"Hate the owner"? You're dreaming this stuff up.

Thanks for answering the stupid post for me. It is a good reply. RecoveringYuppy's reply to this post is just stupid and not worth anything.

We're in the process of planning and designing the "home" site for International Skeptics(1), as well as the upgrade to the forum software(2). As part of that we're going to be sending out a survey to all members to get feedback on what type of features/services that you'd like(3).
If you can cross that bar, which I doubt, then convince me it requires the owner to implement.
Don't bother telling me to "implement a like button".
rule changes, events, social network, real world meetups, dating, process for selecting mods, member blogs (all or select?), like buttons or other feedback mechanisms, social media integrations, competitions, etc etc etc

And you're detached from reality if you think this forum is an asset.
And FFS if we turned it into an actual asset it might make him interested.
Assuming he could get past all the stuff members here do that would make me want to hate owning this place.
The forum is running isn't it? He's kept it running. And he improved it in the process, such as speeding up the searches.

How much do you want for free?
Please note:
I repeat, as I have many times, if the owner does decide it's not worth the effort, I'm more than happy to take it over.
If anything untoward does happen, keep an eye on the Farcebook page, and feel free to join up at the little forum I have live here: http://recogitare.com/MyBB/
You can't join directly - thanks to spamming ***** - so if you do want to join up, just email me at zaphodbeeblebrox@xtra.co.nz and I'll get you set up.
There really isn’t anything to worry about.
Holy Zarquon! Hoopy email address!

Well, as far as I can tell, Icerat has done the forum one significant favor, which was keeping it (just barely) alive. However, he seems bent on doing the absolute bare minimum necessary to keep the forum alive.
Happened with Robert Lancaster‘s site.
Yes, the registrar for INTERNATIONALSKEPTICS.COM is NetEarth One Inc..
$59.95 for one year, $299.75 for five years and $599.50 for ten years.
Do you have any idea about the cost for hosting on Digital Ocean?
If I remember correctly, Orphia Nay closed the Australasian Skeptics forum in 2016 because she thought it was too expensive for her.

Waht. really?
When did that happen?
