Wow, UK has lost freedom of speech

Look we get it your country is going to hell and you need to try and feel better by pretending other places are worse but no one no British people is buying your ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊.
FTFY. Seems the only ones getting mad over this are Brits.

You mean like literally quoting the Bible?
Maybe he meant what he asked? You can't just defer to works of fiction to strawman an argument. Someone can say for example "Hercules must die!" followed by a "hurr, durr, you mean literally quoting the Hercules movie script?"

Hercules is a specific person. If someone said that in my presence, they should be arrested.

It's fascinating how USAians expouse "free speech" while their Rapist-in-Chief and his cronies;
  1. force a private company to suspend Jimmy Kimmel for comments he made about the alleged killer of Kirk.
  2. repeatedly threaten media networks with losing their broadcast licences if they dare to say things Trump doesn’t like.
  3. vowed to prosecute “hate speech” that is actually fully protected under the USAian constitution
  4. declared "antifa" a "terrorist organisation" in an indiscriminate attack on a political belief
  5. tried to force journalists covering the Pentagon to accept to restrictions on their reporting or have their access revoked
The silence is deafening.....

I oppose every one of those things. With extreme prejudice. I believe Trump is a Fascist taking us down the road to Fascism.

Doesn't mean the UK should be criminalizing speech that is offensive. That's ALSO a slippery slope towards Fascism. Seems the US and UK both have issues with free speech.

However a good 50% of the USA opposes what Trump is doing. What percent of the UK opposes the assault on free speech? Based on the responses in this thread, most of the UK hates free speech.

Then was your op mere hyperbole? You could have posted:

"Wow, USA has lost freedom of speech"

And made a much more convincing argument that few here would dispute. The op actually does seem to be a Trump level distraction from your domestic problems.

I guess the UK and the USA have VERY different standards as to what qualifies as to "inciting violence".

One standard seeks to only prosecute TRUE threats of immediate violence, while the other seeks to persecute prosecute mere fantasy.

No, saying "all Muslims are stupid and must be deported!!!", should not be considered a criminal act. Its ridiculous to think otherwise.
The UK has am independent prosecutorial and judicial system; unlike the US, and is a functioning democracy (the US I am frequently told is a republic not a democracy). So we are all intensely relaxed knowing that the judicial system will sort out the issue, and no politician is going to tell the courts what to decide, tell the prosecutors who to prosecute. Since the UK recognises human rights, and international law unlike the US, the involved people can always seek redress from the European Court of Human Rights.

Yes the UK believes the balance between absolute freedom of speech and necessary constraints differs from where the US places the balance, as we have also done for issues like the right to have a gun. Perhaps you might consider the US is the one with the balance in the wrong place?

A good half of the American people are fighting tooth & nail to stop Trump's fascist march against the 1st Amendment. The UK? Seems like they accept and approve of the loss of free speech rights.

"Seems like" :ROFLMAO:. If you are going to comment on a topic you really should take some time to educate yourself about it first. I suggest you read, and understand, Planigale's post right above yours.

More uninformed gibberish.

Are you going to answer my questions yet? You do realise how sad it is that you're refusing to look up and see what they are, right? That continuing to ask "what question?" makes you look a lot worse than me?
