Vancouver skeptics

I tried to pop by, but I couldn't pick anybody out, I didn't recognize anyone. So I met up with some friends to watch a movie instead.

Unfortunately Jas, I ended up showing up late, and I might have been the only one you could have recognized.

Oh well, the plan is to try and do another one in September. This was just a practice run!

Lets try this again...

If anyone is going to be in the Vancouver area in early September...

I have my calendar figured out for my next break. I propose the following:

- How about a BBQ at my place in Surrey in the late afternoon. We can meet at say... 1500hish have a little wine/cocktails/beer etc... munchy things WHY. BBQ 1800hish and then whatever - the night is young if people want to hang out or move on to some more interesting activity.

- I propose either Sept 8,9 or 10 for a date. Either works for me. Let me know preferences.

- If anyone has any food issues/allergies let me know. I have two cats, in case people are allergic.

- Please RSVP. No need to use meetup, just PM me or post here.

- I'll PM everyone address and instructions - easy to get to by car or skytrain.

-AH.

Bump.

Date is now fixed for September 10th.

Please let me know if you would like to have a low-key meetup, and RSVP so I know how much food to lay in.

Bump.

So far I have two expressing interest - anyone else for a post labour-day BBQ?

Sept 10, 1600h 'til...???

Bump. So far this will be a pretty low-key event (dinner for 3...) so - anyone interested in a skeptical BBQ, cruise gossip, general meet and greet - PM me for my address / phone number.

BBQ on the 10th, late afternoon-ish until the wine is all gone and the steaks and prawns are finito...

-AH.

I have some fresh salmon I could bring (well, frozen, but it was just caught last week, so it's super good.)

How long does it take to get to the King George Skytrain stop from DT?

You missed an enormous meal and copious quantities of wine, not to mention some fun conversation. Oh well - next time!

-AH.

Thanks so much to AH for having us, I had a great time. Um, maybe too great of a time. Thanks for letting me crash in the guest room.

AH is fabulous, and has the greatest antiques. And his cats were kind enough to sleep in the guestroom with me.

Just gotta second Jas' praise of AH. He is fabulous, as are his antiques and his cats.

That avatar is hypnotizing.

I'm thinking of using the meetup.com tool to arrange for another meeting of skeptics in the lower mainland, and would love for JREForum locals to show.

Is anybody interested in Sep 30th?

Actually, I know it's last-minute, but would anybody like to meet for Bodyworks tomorrow?

Sorry, I can't make it on the 30th.

(smacks forehead) I meant Sunday October 1st.

According to my calendar, there is no Sunday September 30th.

Well, I could pencil you in for Sunday, September 30th, 2007.

But meantime, October 1st should be fine.

Vancouver Skeptics Meetup Oct 1 7pm Taylor's Crossing North Vancouver

When: Sunday, October 1, 2006, 7:00 PM
Where:
Taylor's Crossing Restaurant & Brewpub
1035 Marine Drive orth Vancouver B.C.
North Vancouver , BC V7P 1S6
604.986.7899

Description:
It's that time again!

Discussion is open, but I have had a request to start with a theme question: "Is there evidence for a part of us that can exist without a physical body?"

Possibly useful reading:
* Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife (Mary Roach)
* Dying To Live: Near-Death Experiences (Susan Blackmore)
* Encyclopedia Of Afterlife Beliefs And Phenomena (James R Lewis)
* To Hell and Back: Life After Death -- Startling New Evidence (Rawlings)
* What Survives? Contemporary Explorations of Life After Death (Doore)
* Science And The Paranormal: Probing the Existence of the Supernatural (Abell)

In response to feedback, I'd like to try a different venue. Taylor's Crossing is a sit-down restaurant with casual dress code. On Sundays, business is slow, so they have half-price pizzas and discounted beer from their own brewery next door to attract a family clientele. There is also a magician who circulates and demonstrates a few simple tricks.

Guests welcome.

Notes:
: : Driving:
1. From the Lions Gate Bridge... take the Marine Drive East exit and stay in one of the two right lanes. These become Marine Drive. Follow several blocks to 1035.

2. From the Second Narrows... follow the #1 to the Westview Exit, turn left to go over the highway southbound, downhill on Westview until it meets Larson Rd. Turn right downhill on Larson Rd. a few blocks to Marine. Turn right and drive about one block.

Parking: there is free parking behind the restaurant.

: : Public Transportation:
Seabus to Lonsdale Quay, take the 239 Park Royal and hop off at or near MacKay Rd.

Taylor's Crossing is a pub/brewery/restaurant in the same complex as Indigo Books, on the South side of Marine Dr.
