US president “still committed” to acquiring Greenland, White House confirms (Caliber.az, May 19, 2025)
Speaking to reporters, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed questions about Trump’s stance on Greenland, which he previously expressed during his presidency, Caliber.Azreports via foreign media.
“Trump maintains the reasoning for Greenland’s strategic purposes in the Arctic and he continues to remain committed to the idea of obtaining Greenland in whatever means we can to advance our national security interests in the region,” Leavitt said.
Karoline Leavitt Confirms That Trump Is Delusional (Farron Balanced on YouTube, May 21, 2025 - 5:55 min.)
Karoline Leavitt confirmed during a press briefing this week that the President of the United States is still apparently suffering from severe delusions because he is still dead-set on getting his hands on Greenland. This admission came after officials in both Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly confirmed that the territory is neither for sale nor up for negotiation, but Trump insists that it should be a part of America.

what does that physically look like? cruiser sails into bay, ties up at the pier, a 100 marines walk peacefully to city hall, and read a declaration? everybody laughs at them and goes about their business?

INVADING GREENLAND: Look for these warning signs listed below to occur well in advance of the USA activating military assets to carry out the invasion and occupation.
Malcolm Nance on X, Mar 28, 2025
How will this happen?
1) A Battalion of marines, 10th Mountain & a mass of US Air Force Security Police are “quietly” alerted to draw weapons and Extreme Cold Weather Gear.
2) AFSOC CCT “airport control” teams and Special Forces mountain troops will be alerted to take Nuuk airport.
3) Dozens of C-17 & refueling aircraft missions will be scheduled to go to Nuuk & Thule. A clandestine capable civil airliner will carry CCT/SOF to Nuuk. A follow on C-17 missions to bring the below listed to take over administration.
4) US Marshals, ICE & DHS Swat teams will be quietly alerted to be prepared to take over airport & police duties on streets.
5) A US Special Operations Expeditionary warfare sea base & a helicopter carrier will depart east coast, stop in Wilmington NC to embark follow on SOF/Marines and head to Nuuk to act as interim “capitol/embassy” for new “American” administrators brought from Alaska.
6) Trump declares it a US protectorate territory. Names it Trump-land.
This is the stupidest idea and it WILL go sideways. Both Greenlanders and Americans will be killed.
Lars Wallden on X, Mar 29, 2025
They can't do that without sinking some Danish ships and killing soldiers, possibly also civilians. The US will have to declare war on Denmark so Congress must be in on it.That will mean the end for international relations and trade as it is today. The USA becomes a fascist state and a paria, the world economy will plummet into recession and poverty.Tomorrow you better buy supplies for a week or two, things will start to get ugly.
Malcolm Nance on X, Mar 29, 2025
This is sorta correct minus the congress replacing war. Trump can do it quickly with the war powers act.

It seems that nobody are asking Trump or his minions what kind of security they can get by "owning" Greenland rather than just doing whatever they please as they can now with existing treaties.
It would be interesting to see if they'll admit that it is mostly in order to ignore Greenlandic objections to mining operations.

It's maybe also so that Trump can go down in history for adding the largest amount of territory to the US (not realising that the Mercator projection makes Greenland appear so much larger than it actually is).

Precisely, but he is unlikely to state this openly. Besides, adding Greenland and Canada really will make him the president that enlarged the territory of the U.S. the most. In other words, he would be the greatest, and most beautiful president ever (say I with a tear in my eyes).

VERY INTERESTING

* Hawaii and Greenland are roughly the same distance from the US.

* Greenland is part of North America, Hawaii is not.

* Hawaii is a US state, Greenland is not ….. but it could become one as long as both governments come to an agreement.
It can't be a state. It's going to be a second tier territory.

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!

Greenland has allowed a Danish-French consortium to mine a rock which is key to the production of aluminum.

The permit granted to Greenland Anorthosite Mining (GAM) to extract anorthosite follows interest in the Arctic territory from U.S. President Donald Trump in acquiring the autonomous island which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

GAM, which is backed by French company Jean Boulle Group and real estate investment firms bodies from Denmark and Greenland, was granted a 30-year permit, Reuters reported.

Jesper Willaing Zeuthen, associate professor at Aalborg University, in Denmark, told Newsweek Trump's interest in Greenland's resources is likely to be more in securing long-term investment objects which is difficult under current Greenlandic legislation.

Mainly based on the Newsweek article, I think:
WOW: Greenland & Europe team up, DEFY Trump in surprise move (Brian Tyler Cohen on YouTube, May 23, 2025 - 8:05 min.)
BREAKING #news - Greenland & Europe team up to DEFY Trump in surprise move
0:50--> The deal allows Greenland Anorthosite Mining, which is a Danish-French partnership, to extract anorrthosite, a key mineral used in aluminum production from Greenlandic territory. And here's the kicker: Greenland's mineral resources minister basically said that while American business delegations have visited this year, despite all of Trump's bluster and threats there has been zero formal dialogue with the Trump administration
and absolutely no increased interest in direct investment from the United States.
It's also worth talking about what this mining deal actually represents. This anorthosite extraction project is being positioned as a climate-friendly alternative to bauxite for aluminum production. It's a strategic partnership that could provide raw materials for aircrafts, vehicles and defense applications. This is exactly the kind of resource access that Trump claimed* he wanted from Greenland, but instead of getting it he's watching European companies walk away with 30-year extraction rights, while the US gets absolutely nothing. That's what happens when your foreign policy consists entirely of threats and bluster instead of actual diplomacy.
In other words, Trump spent months making bombastic statements about acquiring Greenland, treating itlike some kind of real estate deal he could just muscle his way into. He talked about Greenland like it was a piece of property he could snatch up for a steal at auction.
He completely ignored the fact that Greenland just so happens to be a sovereign territory with its own government that makes its own decisions, and while Trump was busy making threats and acting like a colonial era imperialist, European partners were actually doing the work, building relationships negotiating deals and treating Greenland like the sovereign entity that it actually is.
* Well, I don't think Trump ever claimed that he wanted "a climate friendly alternative" to anything, but apart from that it's probably true.

ETA: A warning to Americans and other nationalists, i.e. to everybody!
Do you notice the mistake Brian Tyler Cohen makes here, repeatedly?
5:50--> His aggressive confrontational approach to international relations consistently results in other countries choosing to work with our competitors instead of with us. (...) The really infuriating part, though, is that this was completely avoidable. The United States could have been competing for these mining rights, American companies could have been building partnerships with Greenlandic authorities, we could have been securing access to these strategic resources through normal diplomatic and business channels, but Trump's ego and his colonial mindset got in the way.
If you don't, I'll highlight it for you:

Notice the smooth transition from our, us --> the USA --> American companies and back to we.
I know it's difficult to grasp when you have been singing songs about is as children, sworn allegiance to it, and heard politician tell you to Make America Great Again or Yes We Can, but America was never you, American companies were never you. In the current situation, in particular, it should have become pretty obvious to everybody, but the USA and American companies like Tesla or Exxon Mobil are you as little as the Danish Realm or Greenland Anorthosite Mining or Novo Nordisk is me.

However, as long as you think that you and the USA and American companies are one and the same thing, sharing the same interests, you will remain useful idiots for 'your' presidents and 'your' oligarchs, and as long as you think that's the case, you will continue to believe that the rest of the world is 'your' enemy.

Trump administration plans to move Greenland from U.S. European Command to Northern Command (CBS News, June 3, 2025)
Moving Greenland to Northern Command, which is in charge of defending the homeland, is a symbolic statement suggesting a view of Greenland as more a part of the defense of the U.S. than of Europe. In the eyes of the U.S., the move treats Greenland more like Canada and less like a part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Politico first reported the planned move, and CNN first reported the administration was considering the change.

Malcolm Nance on X, June 3, 2025
#Greenland This isn’t good but it was expected.
This move is a “legal” & operational precursor to seizing the island. By placing it under direct US military commanders at NorthCom HQ in Cheyenne Mt complex and OUT of US European command’s authority in Stuttgart it means the USA will no longer recognize it as part of NATO’s Europe’s defense strategy, but places it under the USA continental defense planning just like Alaska.
This is a small but necessary step before Trump’s long awaited “annexation” … which can only practically be done by armed invasion and military occupation followed by forced citizenship on the Inuit Greenlanders & expulsion of European Danes.
Malcolm Nance on X, June 4, 2025
It puts Greenland under the North American defense. command structure.
It literally is a slap in the face to Denmark by segregating Greenland from continental Europe as far as we are concerned.
It would be akin to China, claiming Guam should be a Chinese territory and suddenly placing it under the Eastern Theater Command’s defense plans.
You’d think that would be pretty provocative, right? So is this.

I await the rational explanation for why Greenland should be a European strategic element, rather than a North American strategic element.

That Trump is irrational goes without saying.

There's no reason Danes need to play along. If Putin really is gearing up for a larger European conflict, it makes sense to take Greenland off EURCOM's plate.

It's interesting that Danes are more concerned about this than about Moscow's antics in the Baltic Sea. The Baltic states, Poland, Sweden, and Finland are all standing up to Moscow, but Copenhagen is letting itself be distracted. Like possession of Greenland is more important than the survival of Denmark.

I don't think the evidence supports that conjecture.

yes. why would a country be upset about a former ally suddenly attempting to claim a large part of your nation out of the blue ?
Especially when that nation already has a large military presence in said territory and is led by an irresponsible manchild who is actively purging the military of it's sane commanders.

Ridiculous.
