Trump's Second Term

OK, I gotta ask, what's up with this guy?*

* If he's a burn victim, or it's a rare birthmark, etc., I apologize. But he looks like he smeared ◊◊◊◊ all over his face.

edited to add: See junkshop's explanation in next post. Apologies to anyone my post may have offended.
I'd scrolled past the picture without noticing the box you added to it, so I thought you were talking about Trump.

He's back on Asylum seekers being from mental institutions and insane asylums again!

Trump: "People from mental institutions and insane asylums. You know what that is? Insane asylum, that's a mental institution on steroids. During the campaign I'd talk about the late great Hannibal Lecter."

You know Trump not understanding the dictionary meaning of the word and assuming that all asylum seekers have mental health problems is actually quite plausible.

How did he go from Schumer to transgender athletes...? Is there a link?

Trump wraps his speech on the reconciliation bill: "Schumer -- our great Palestinian senator. He's changed. He used to like Jewish people, now he's totally against Jewish people. It's the most incredible transformation I think I've ever seen. But who would allow this to happen? Try the weightlifting numbers some day if you want to see some big differences. In a million years the women will never catch these numbers. It's not gonna happen. And it's very demeaning to women. And I don't like it when it's demeaning to women. So we're turning the country around fast. We love you all. Thank you very much."

His clanging probably made his mind jump to trans people when he said transformation.

Oh, America, I'm so sorry. I would cringe in sympathy for you just to help out but I've utterly exhausted my capacity to cringe. It's just too much.

:what:

i mean, it's pretty obvious the trump admin is lying about how effective the strikes were. to what extent, idk.

i don't really know how you're supposed to judge anything that's happening anymore. they celebrate stuff like this like they won the superbowl and in between take vaccines and food and masked men kidnap immigrants from their jobs while they run bitcoin scams. it's a joke, who even gives a ◊◊◊◊ about whether or not they got iran.

I get the impression that Trump's brain is like a pachinko machine. He starts by letting all the "thought" balls drop and the lights flash as they rattle around like random in his skull as he spews his nonsense. Then the last few balls falling down are these final random weird thoughts, pinging and tinkling their way through to his mouth. Then there's no more. "Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Don't forget that Trump once referred to Netanyahu as "your President" when speaking to American Jews, so his feelings toward Jews are questionable. Not real Americans, I guess. Maybe like when people thought JFK would be taking orders from the Vatican, since he was Catholic.
What floors me is that, having grown up among Evangelical Christians, I know that a great many of them view Jewish people with varying degrees of anti-Semitism. It's not so much that they have fealty for them as it is that they regard Muslims in an even more negative way. They see Judaism as a proper, if obsolete, root of Christianity, while Islam is regarded as just blasphemy and false prophecy. So in any conflict between the two groups the Jewish side will always be the "good guys". (Ironically, most religious Jews view Christianity the was Christians view Islam.)

Years ago I assured a secular Jewish friend that he was right to suspect that most Evangelical support for Israel stemmed from their belief that it was a necessary step toward the fulfillment of the prophecy in the Revelation of John. They still expect all of the un-converted Jews to be wiped out in the end times, and they're okay with that.

Or the makeup artist did a terrible job with his blackface.
I miss the days when taking a cheap jab at someone over a medical condition didn't get a laugh.

I jest, of course. Empathy has always been conditional, and there have always been people that poke fun at others for how they look.

Ha!
No ◊◊◊◊ Sherlock?

Q: You said you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. You've now been in office for 5 months. Why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?

TRUMP: Because it's more difficult than people would have any idea.

Did the reporter follow with: Actually, people, which is to say pretty much everyone, had that idea. Are you therefore admitting that your boast was short-sighted if not entirely inane?

Expanding upon that a little... Biblically, it's nigh everyone, not just the Jews. Even if they're not assuming that the 144,000 is literally that number, there's generally apathy towards the overwhelming majority of humanity that will have a horrible end. That's just the way things are in the mythology, after all. God is patient, wise, and merciful, but they earned it so the suffering and death God inflicts upon them is their fault.

As for planning and secrecy. In addition to June being D-Day, an equally large and complex operation took place in the Pacific a few days later.

The Marianas campaign started, a fleet of over 600 ships and 120, 000 Marines. It included the Battle of the Philippine Sea (The Marianas Turkey Shoot) when the Japanese lost just about all their carrier aircraft and their carriers (again)

Another bombing raid that apparently excelled in terms of secrecy - Pearl Harbor!

At the risk of carrying on a derail, many evangelical Christians are saddened and indeed horrified at the thought of many millions or even billions being rejected from God's presence at the final judgement, which is why they continue to, well, evangelize.

Within Christianity there seems to be a split between two camps: those who rejoice at the idea of sinners in the hands of an angry God, and those who are despondent that so many will suffer this very fate. The second group rejects the idea that God deliberately casts sinners into hell; their view is God reluctantly cannot allow unclean souls to enter his presence. Unfortunately the devil provides their only alternate resting place.

Having said that, the Bible provides a fair bit of evidence for the first view: "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:15, New International Version)

Kennedy Withdraws U.S. Funding Pledge to International Vaccine Agency

New York Times said:
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claimed that the agency, Gavi, had “ignored the science” in immunizing children around the world.

The U.S. health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has moved to undermine public immunization programs in the United States, took his efforts global on Wednesday, accusing the leading international vaccine organization of having “ignored the science” in immunizing children around the world.

In confrontational remarks sent by video to global leaders who had gathered to support the organization, Gavi, Mr. Kennedy said the United States would withdraw its financial support for the group’s work purchasing vaccines for children in poor countries.

“In its zeal to promote universal vaccination, it has neglected the key issue of vaccine safety,” he said. “I’ll tell you how to start taking vaccine safety seriously: Consider the best science available, even when the science contradicts established paradigms. Until that happens, the United States won’t contribute more to Gavi.”

Full story at the New York Times. (Article wasn't paywalled for me. Your mileage may vary.)

As of the close of the day on June 26, my positive/negative score on the Trump administration stands at -860.

26 June 2025

-1: Trump claims without evidence that the Biden administration allowed 1,888 murderers into the United States [326]
-1: Once again Trump mixes up “asylum seeker” with “insane asylum” [326]
-1: With no trace of irony, Karolyn Leavitt says totalitarian regimes have to save face. [327]

326: Trump: “We’re bringing criminals out by the thousands, nobody can even imagine. They [Biden’s administration] let people in that were murderers – 1,888 murderers, gang members, people from mental institutions and insane asylums. You know what that is? Insane asylum? That’s a mental institution on steroids. During the campaign I’d talk about the late, great Hannibal Lecter.”

327. Leavitt: “When you have a totalitarian regime, you have to save face. I think any common sense, open-minded person knows the truth about the precision strikes on Saturday night. They were wildly successful.”

328. Hegseth: “President Trump directed the most complex and secretive military operation in history, and it was a resounding success.”

329. Jennifer Griffin (Fox News): Are you certain none of that highly enriched uranium was moved?
Hegseth: Jennifer, you’ve been about the worst. The one who misrepresents the most intentionally.
