Trump's Second Term

Kennedy Withdraws U.S. Funding Pledge to International Vaccine Agency

Full story at the New York Times. (Article wasn't paywalled for me. Your mileage may vary.)
The problem is that this may not be temporary. Even if a democrat is elected next time or a pro-vaccine health secretary appointed, reversing previous policies may not happen. Cutting funding for treatment of foreign children is much easier than switching it back on. Any subsequent administration will probably prioritise domestic policies over foreign aid. Even if democrats win both houses and the presidency, there still may be attempts at legislative blocks.

If Europe switches up military spending then their ability to compensate for cuts in US aid will be limited. China (and India?), may become more dominant.

Make your minds up!

Lindsey Graham: "I don't know where the 900 pounds of highly enriched uranium exists, but it wasn't part of the target set."

Actually IMO Lindsey cuts to the heart of the matter.

Destroying uranium wasn't on the objectives list. So yes, the targets were demolished but you can't say their capabilities have been eliminated.

(BTW: What *do* you do to go about destroying U 235 - blow it up? That sounds bad to me?)

Did they move things? Could centrifuges me moved on the sly, or not? I have no idea. Or the uranium. I really WANT Trump to have succeeded on this one. But just about everything since the actual action has been silly. Ordering Israel around, squabbling with reporters, demanding favors. Ugh.

I get the impression that Trump's brain is like a pachinko machine. He starts by letting all the "thought" balls drop and the lights flash as they rattle around like random in his skull as he spews his nonsense. Then the last few balls falling down are these final random weird thoughts, pinging and tinkling their way through to his mouth. Then there's no more. "Thank you for your attention to this matter."

You missed the part where the balls spill out a big crack in the bottom of the machine and everyone nearby starts slipping up and crashing to the floor.

What floors me is that, having grown up among Evangelical Christians, I know that a great many of them view Jewish people with varying degrees of anti-Semitism. It's not so much that they have fealty for them as it is that they regard Muslims in an even more negative way. They see Judaism as a proper, if obsolete, root of Christianity, while Islam is regarded as just blasphemy and false prophecy. So in any conflict between the two groups the Jewish side will always be the "good guys". (Ironically, most religious Jews view Christianity the was Christians view Islam.)

Years ago I assured a secular Jewish friend that he was right to suspect that most Evangelical support for Israel stemmed from their belief that it was a necessary step toward the fulfillment of the prophecy in the Revelation of John. They still expect all of the un-converted Jews to be wiped out in the end times, and they're okay with that.
They expect to be the ones doing the wiping out.

I reckon the sum total of the delay will be the time needed to dig out the entrances. Of course the attack will probably significantly loosen up the political controls that were holding the bomb programme in check.

You know Trump not understanding the dictionary meaning of the word and assuming that all asylum seekers have mental health problems is actually quite plausible.
Oh God. I bet you're right

lol. They just did a failed air strike and they think metaphors involving dropping bombs is good rhetoric.

Though to be fair, to the cult it possibly is.

Yes, if they are going to bomb me for not having a bomb then, I want a bomb.

Prosecute the Dems for leaking information about his perfect flights

Donald J. Trump
@realDonald Trump
The Democrats are the ones who leaked the information on the PERFECT FLIGHT to the Nuclear Sites in Iran. They should be prosecuted!

Donald has been nominated twice.
Does that mean he can get 2 prizes?

Rep. Claudia Tenney
@RepTenney
I've officially nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize twice!

He has done more for world peace than any modern leader.

...

According to Donald nothing was taken out of the site, it's too hard to move.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
The cars and small trucks at the site were those of concrete workers trying to cover up the top of the shafts. Nothing was taken out of facility. Would take too long, too dangerous, and very heavy and hard to move!

It's not even the most complex and secretive military operation THIS MONTH! c.f. Operation Spiderweb
I'm looking forward to @Jack by the hedge explaining this in the same way that he explained how a wooden flying boat would be invisible earlier in this thread.

And how he invented the word "stealthy".
