Trump's Second Term

I heard this song playing today in a fast food restaurant: "Everybody Wants To Rule The World," by Tears For Fears.

Everybody Wants To Rule the World, LINK

Seemed oddly appropriate for right now.

♫Welcome to your life
There's no turning back...
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world♫

I saw TFF perform once, with Blondie opening up....which gives me an idea, when Roland opens his mouth it creates a vacuum kind of like a black hole, I wonder if we could use it as a nuclear deterrent? ;)

I used to have a manager who's family had fled Iran, she referred to herself as Persian.
Met two Iranians (that I know) of in my life, one a US born student daughter of an Iraqi mother and Iranian father, the other an Iranian emigrant who was my boss in Dell. Both called themselves Iranian, largely because they and their families were not fans of the Shah.

Back in the early 70's my supervisor was a Dr. Ebadi, a Persian. He was most definitely Persian. Insistent about it.
He moved his family over to the UK, before the fall of the Shah.
Really nice chap.

Yes, according to Federal law the President has the authority to engage in limited military action but needs Congress' approval after 90 days of activity. Or 60 days, i forgot the time frame.

There were a lot of Iranians/Persians attending college in the US during the 70s. The Shah's secret police were notorious so hearing they were not fans of the Shah isn't surprising. I heard a lot of those students complaining about the United States government. Who they rightfully said was complicit in propping up the Shah's government and his brutal secret police.

It's called the War Powers act.. Passed after the Gulf of Tonkin incident I believe. In theory, the authority is provisional. But the President is nevertheless expected to consult with congress expeditiously and even before he takes action if possible. Meeting with Gang of Five is expected.

Trump isn't even attempting to be Presidential. He is acting as a monarch. Accountable to no one.

I was wrong. It was passed in 73. After Congress found out about the the US bombings in Cambodia.

That the part of the process they want to destroy (bombs etc) is the centrifuges. It is quite high tech, ast they spin fast and there is a system then to collect UF6. But the rest of it does not need to be protected so well and the final UO2 can be stored anywhere. But the amount is unknown. There have been no inspectors. It could be any amount. The minimum amount needed for a warhead is not in Wikipedia. I would say there is no bomb. It would need to be tested in some manner. They have not done that.
I will stick to my claim that Iran has no 90% uranium needed for the bomb. it is laborius process. Plus the bomb itself.

It's not a cult.

@LauraLoomer
Today @Nikki Haley went on @CNBC and called for the US to bomb Iran.
Nikki Haley wants more war in the Middle East, which means more dead US soldiers.
The only person who has proven that he won't create more wars is Donald Trump.
Donald Trump is the pro peace candidate.

President Trump confirms the US just BOMBED all 3 Nuclear sites in Iran. He said all US planes are now on their way home.
Thank you, President Trump!

As questionable as I find this particular action, and its timing, and its motivations, and as much as I dislike Trump and think he's a wicked idiot....I don't think this was something he actually wanted to do. I think he got pushed into it and, in typical Trump fashion, tries to claim credit for what he imagines is a credit-worthy thing. Love this attack or hate it, it doesn't seem very Trumplike to me. His style is to make threats and not carry them out. I think he really wanted two weeks plus to look tough, not to actually carry out risky action that might backfire spectacularly not only in themselves but also for the political consequences to himself. Trump's risk-averse when it comes to his own popularity, isn't he?

I think it was people around him who pushed him into this, and I don't think it was his weirdo crypto Nazi cronies -- they strike me as much more interested domestically than internationally. I think it was remaining Bush-like warhawks who pushed for this now, the "old school" that's still managed to hang in there.
"If we have nuclear weapons why can't we use them?". Remember?

Any idiot
Trump has been nominated for the Nobel peace prize every year by one nonce or another. A lot of people can nominate for the prize, including every member of the US Congress and Senate, so if it's a peace prize nomination he wants, there are easier ways.
Any Idiot can nominate any other Idiot for the Nobel Prize. Getting the Nobel Prize commitee to take a nomination seriously is the hard part.

I thin Trump's air strikes were a terrible mistake, but let's not whitewash the Iranian goverment. it is pretty obvious they are after a Nuclear Weapon.
and Most of the experts I have read disagre with you about how far along Iran is in it's quest.
I have never understood why so many on the Left basically try to carry the water for the Ayatollahs, except it is a :Enemy of my enemy is my fireind kind oof thing.

What airbase did the bombers fly from?
I'm not sure this was answered. trump announced the B2s returned to "Missouri." Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri -- about 50 miles southeast of Kansas City -- is reported to be the current home of the B2 Spirit bombers. By the way, Iran is over 7,000 miles from the base. The B2's cruising speed is reportedly 560 mph so it would have been a round-trip of over 24 hours.

I have no illusions about Iran and the Ayatollah. But I don't think they were building a bomb. Just like I didn't believe that Iraq was. These are many of the same experts. I'll say one thing about Bush. He built a consensus of US allies before he launched his war on Iraq.

But America no longer has its allies. And they are not with us. Trump just turned the US into a pariah.

Reminds me of Monty Python.

All this . . . thing did was to guarantee the U.S. will experience a briefcase nuke somewhere in the future.

Or am I being too cynical?
