Cont: Today's Mass Shooting (2)

Never heard of him. After googling him, he appears to be a member of the Proud Boys (not, nominally, a white supremacist organisation), and from the picture I saw of him, he could conceivably pass as a tanned person of European descent.

Not so with the mass shooter under discussion who could never be mistaken for a white supremacist, regardless of his tattoos.

Ah yes, I forgot the Proud Boys are simply 'Western Chauvinists'. No dog-whistling going on there, no sirree.

No, it's an all-too-common desperation to cram the facts into preferred villain/victim narratives, rather than than dispassionately examining the facts.

This isn't a case of people taking some Twitter post from five years ago and trying to stretch that lens over otherwise-ambiguous present-day actions; the facts are that he was a white supremacist, he had neo-Nazi tattoos, actively shared white supremacy ideology on internet forums, and wore white-supremacist patches on the clothing he chose to wear during the attack.

Whether you personally think his skin was too "brown" to qualify as a Fellow White Man is unimportant.

Ridiculous comparison, c'mon. You simply can't lay a brown-skinned, Hispanic murderer at the feet of white supremacists when none of them would have accepted him as one of their own. That smacks of desperation.

They'd have no problem accepting him as a sort of junior partner. Kinda like the Germans did with Italy during WW2.

Of course, things would change after the current demons were eliminated.

It's the old fairy tale come to life.

We read only of the prince at the end, but before him comes the dipsy dreamer, the inflamed farm boy, the deluded tailor, magic spell memorized, ready to beard the dragon, slip through the enchanted forest, and with eyes fixed on the horizon he hardly notices as he steps over the scattered bones of those who tried and failed. Tomorrow's princes line up at the gate.

In the garden of the gods, next to the Oh-so-close Lotto Colossus and the cubic monument to missed Nobels, see there, the great gallery of headless henchmen. They're all there, not just the nameless multitudes of clayfoot rubes who tripped on an enchanted vine, or clipped the cyclops on the ear, but the greats: Rohm, Trotsky, Raleigh, Robespierre, Jiang Qing, Barr... and they're putting the finishing touches on Mauricio Garcia as we speak.

It's not who he was embraced by, but rather the groups that he embraced and aligned his ideology to, that define him.
