TN Republicans Voting to Expel 3 Democrats from State House of Representatives

Completely unconscionable, completely indefensible, completely disgusting.

The tragedy is, it's not just one or two bad apples. It's around half the effing barrel, that's either gone rotten, or sits there at the bottom enabling the rotting maggot-infested monstrosity, and are indirectly and morally just as responsible, just as culpable.

It's tragic, that things should have come to this. The country's doomed, or close to it. How long can you keep fighting against half of yourself, desperately holding the lid down?

Crooks that profit from this sort of thing, the Trumps of the world, are one thing; but the pathetic losers that, to their own detriment, enable this sort of thing, the real actual "cucks", have a lot to answer for.

The whole republican party, at all levels, is committed to a policy of treason. You may find a handful of them across the country who are not rotten, but you'd be struggling.

I think you fail to see the positive news here. Within living memory worse would have happened to a couple of uppity ******* in Tennessee than merely having to stand for re-election. Just think how things have advanced.

(Irony)

If the Republican leaders continue to assert it was an insurrection, shouldn’t reporters ask why no charges were filed against perpetrators of one of the most serious crimes in the country?

Calling it an insurrection is just prep work for the J6 trial: now they get to claim “both sides do it.”

Beau is mad. I hope he is right about this. He is right that the best immediate reaction is to simply re-elect the expelled reps as a FU to the GOP.

I could have just swore we had Republicans on this board.

Oh well since they are none here defending this I must have been mistaken.

As usual, they're waiting to hear what their talking points are before making an appearance.

Oh I know. I just like pointing it out.

They'll show up once their masters tell them what the narrative is.

So place your bets, will it be whattaboutism, some appeal to "dignity", or downplaying it as no big deal?

Honest real answer. "Every accusation is a confession"

So the angle will be whatever is the most blatantly hypocritical, that specific kind of chip on the shoulder "Dare you to notice it" hypocritical. They will accuse the Democrats of whatever it is they are doing the most in the most obvious way.

So yeah going with "Appeal to dignity, appeal to the process." With Republicans showing so much open contempt for those things. That will achieve the "Man with no pants runs up to you screaming at you about how your fly being down makes you the worst person ever" tone that literally all their arguments these days have.

Not sure I'm a Republican anymore; at this point the amount of stupidity on the right is actually greater than the stupidity on the left. It's why I voted (D) for governor, attorney general and secretary of state last year, and why I passed on voting for Trump in the last two presidential elections.

In my mind, it's difficult to be more stupid than the Democrats, but the Republicans have definitely been putting in the effort. I may have to go back to being a Libertarian.

Nope. More radical actions are needed
I propose the Dems simply walk out of the state legislature and stay out. They are doing no good there anyway. Create as much chaos without breaking the law as possible. Extreme situations call for extreme measures.
This is politicla war.

Between expelling the two African Americans but not the white legislator, and the complete lack of process - I heard tonight on the news that one time in the past when that legislature expelled a member, there was a special committee to investigate the issue and it took a couple of months! - there's no denial of what a naked display of power and racism this is.

One legislator after the votes claimed that because the white female legislator did not carry a bullhorn but her two black colleagues did is the reason why she was not expelled.

I looked but there aren't any emojis for how horrible this is.

That's because we don't have an emoji that represents an elephant taking a big **** on democracy.

Damn, Rep. Justin Jones' speech in response to being expelled was brutal.

Child molester? Just fine. Urinating in another rep's chair? A-ok. Speak against gun violence while black? Way out of line, apparently

I hope this guy becomes Governor of Tennessee someday. Not likely, but I'd love to see it happen.

There is something about the idea of violent centrism that haunts me. It makes so sense yet it explains so much.

Actually by chaos I did not mean violence;I spefically said within the Law. Lot of things you can do legally to make it hard for the GOP government to operate.
And yeah, the problem with Centrism is it's advocates don't want to fight for it.
That might be changing.

I find this absolutely disgusting; to compare non-violent
'unruly behavior' that was protesting gun violence to Jan. 6 and
to expel them rather than fine or censure them. The charge against
them is breaking some rules. There have been physical fights
on the floor of the chamber and worse violations of the rules than these
three committed and no suggestion of expulsion was ever made. This is
nothing more than childish and hateful GOP political revenge and to redirect
attention from gun control after the school shooting and, I suspect, Trump's
indictment. This is representative of the GOP party today. Reprehensible

But not surprising. The size of the political vacuum here really impresses.

First, he argued that as a freshman representative, he has not been
made aware of all of the House rules and to what and when they apply.

Bad idea.

Don't take a job if you don't know what's in it.
Or at least hire a lawyer to review the matter.
What are the rules I wonder?

Representatives who are expelled can return to their office — by being
appointed by the commission and/or by running again. The state constitution
also says a lawmaker can't be expelled a second time for the same offense.

What!

If you get expelled after robbing a stage coach and you get back in.
They cannot throw you out no matter the number of stage coaches
you rob afterwords?

Tennesee needs another little visit from the guy in my Avatar and his buddy General Sherman badly.

Why?

Another general, General Economy, marched through the area in the 1980s
and 1990s and destroyed all industry. Burned everything down. Nothing left.

The steel mill gone, the consumer electronics Magnabox, the shirt
manufacturers, all gone. We've got low paying call centers and cows,
that's it.

The young, soon as they graduate from high school, leave home
for better opportunities elsewhere.

And I repeat, I hope the Dems in the legislature have the guts to just walk out...
permanently. They can't do any good. Time for some massive disruption.

The last time I saw a Democrat here was back in the 1970s.
A little old lady sitting at a table downtown. Ah, but that place is gone too.
They had a tenuous presence up until the year 2000. Then they vanished.
Replaced by Fox News in the fine dining Restaurant here, like Burger King
and Dairy Queen.

If the Democratic Party disappeared from Tennessee no one would notice.

Time for Politics as usual is over.

Problem is too many people are not willing to fight for what they believe,
but want it handed to them. Does not work that way. This is no time for
cowards and playing nice with the Fascists.

Back was it fifteen years ago, people talked about Buncombe North Carolina
here being backwards. Just a short drive over the mountains from here.
They have a Democratic Party, online, and you can meet them and discuss
issues with them for fifteen dollars a head. And they'll even throw in a meal
for free. And that place is smaller than this place.

Over here nothing. No democrats. You could offer fifteen million dollars
and you wouldn't meet a one.

I just hope the people in Tennessee don't take this lying down.

Maybe. I'll look and see if anythings going on, but anything east of Lebanon's
likely not moving much, one way or the other.

Yeah. I argue for ordinary actions. Like going door to door and talking to people.

Eh. It's not going to happen.

They'll stay in the big cities and never reach out to people who might help them in their cause.

It's fly over country. Enough said.
