QB Tim Tebow lead the Denver Broncos to yet another miraculous 4Th quarter win against the Chicago Bears this time.

The word Tebowing has just been accepted as a new word and is defined as: getting down on a knee and praying even if everyone around you is doing something completely different.

Tim Tebow credits God and prayer for his wins. I've always thought it odd when sports stars credit God for their wins. I have a hard time believing God would choose one team or player over another giving them a mysterious unfair advantage. No Fair! The ultimate unfair! God himself giving a hand up to a certain player. It's not like the prayer is for a sick child. Perhaps God would grant his prayers as an example of the power of prayer to all people?

I think prayer is a beautiful thing. I do understand that usually this is a general praise be to God statement by athletes. Perhaps the prayers inspire Tim Tebow to do his ultimate or his faith helps in his achievements.

Thoughts?
 
My main thoughts on Tebow are...

A. I'm very curious what the reaction would be if Tebow dropped to both knees, faced east, and uttered "Allah u ackbar".

B. I really want to smack the people who insist that Tebow should be rookie of the year over Dalton & Newton.

C. When Denver gets booted from the playoffs, I kinda hope the other team yells "Hail Satan!"

Here's what I posted yesterday in Sports

Denver's Offense:
With Orton starting: 1.7 pts per drive
With Tebow starting: 1.3 pts per drive

Denver's Defense
When Orton started: 2.4 pts per drive
Since Tebow has been starting: 1.3 pts per drive

Who's your savior?

(I put it on a per drive basis to control for the effect of a change in number of possessions; it has been claimed that because Denver is now running the ball all the time, that the opponents do not have as many opportunities to score; it is completely wrong, of course - Denver's offense is so bad that they give the opponents more chances to score (2.5 extra possessions per game) making what the defense has done even more impressive)

There was nothing miraculous about Marion Barber's stupid plays that handed the game to Denver.

Nor the idiotic "prevent" defense deployed by the Bears late in the game.

Didn't you know? Tebow was on the bench praying that the Bears would go out of bounds. His prayer was answered.

He's obviously got a direct line to God.

Only if you don't subscribe to Jay Leno's theory that God's got a lazy $100 on the Broncos this year
 
Remember the sabbath and keep it holy sayeth the lord. All NFL employees have been working on Sundays, disparaging the sabbath, for as long as I can remember. I don't know why god doesn't just smite them all, Tebow included.

I'm a little confused.

Why would god be so concerned about the Broncos vs say... saving a Baptized child's life, or feeding a few hundred thousand Christian Africans?

Seems that god has a pretty skewed ethical model if its more important to help the Broncos vs alleviate some suffering.

Unless it is I who has my priorities screwed up. After all, I'm an NHL fan.

Sounds like what I was telling my nephew yesterday. The "prevent" defense is the worst name in all of sports. It prevents nothing. I would also add that I'm surprised that Tebow hasn't gotten creamed yet by some ends or OLs.
Plus, the kicker made two awesome field goals, one a 59! yarder (the second of his career) and he's mentioned as a sidenote.

I wish the 'protect the QB' rules were toned down a bit and someone could light up Tebow so he'd stop thinking he's a running back.

Well, to be fair, it's my understanding that Tebow has stated God doesn't take sides in sports games and doesn't affect the outcome. So although his stance is pretty much to thank God for everything, I don't think he believes that (for instance) God made Marion Barber run out of bounds for no fathomable reason just so Denver could win.

I'm tired of people insisting that 'he's a winner' or 'he's great'. His stats are horrific. What, he makes at most four passes a game? His 'skills' are redefining greatness alright, one hand-off at a time.

A manager at work even said the stupid, 'he makes them want to win' line in his defense. Yeah, he's a real motivator for his own teams defense. His team is winning in spite of him, not because of him.

Hell, I don't even like football but just listening to others talk about what they guy is doing is enough to inform me that he isn't the reason for their wins.
 
Of course, to better measure the efficacy of faith and its hypothesized correlation with gridiron heroics, we'll need to increase the sample size for "Xtian" (i.e., those with some outspoken connection; given US demographics, most should be nominally xtian) quarterbacks in the NFL, to include the husband of evangelical and former Miss California Carrie PrejeanWP - not sure of his faith; but will assume she at least prays fervently for him - and current Raiders backup, Kyle Boller.
