It's my first TAM too, and my first trip overseas on my own...unless you count going from England to Wales on the train.

Be sure to come and say hi!

Cheers,

Chris

Advices on what to wear at TAM?

Hi, All,

Can somone give me some advices on what to wear at the meeting? I am a female

I am told that it feels like staying under a hair-dryer outside, but can be freezing inside.

Also, do I need a dress for some event(s)?

Many thanks.

Thank you, Chris.

I look forward to the meeting and making new friends, again excited and nervious.

I am from Michigan, I understand it will be really really hot.

I think it's safe to say that you can wear whatever you want, whenever you want. I've seen some women dressed up (not a lot, but some do), jeans, skirts, whatever. I usually bring a light hoodie or something to carry around inside while the actual conference part is happening because it's freezing in the room. However, I don't get very cold during the social hours in the bar or whatnot because there are a ton of people walking around and I get to move around a lot more.

It is RIDICULOUSLY hot outside, but I get so cold so easily that I kind of like it.

A bikini.

I've never been cold in the meeting rooms, but others are. But it is hotter than hell outside. I would suggest shorts and a shirt, with a sweater or long sleeve shirt you can slip on indoors.

Not really. Unless you feel like dressing up. TAM is very informal.

Thank you very much. I have been doing my homework to get ready for this meeting. I "saw" your face somewhere in one of the forums talking about going out for Sushi, can you provide me more details about that?

I am a big fan of Sushi, although I came from China.

As in 108°F (42°C) with zero humidity. I recommend using lib balm and moisturizer as necessary, even indoors.

I lived in Marlboro, MA for about two years a long time ago, miss Boston a lot.
Marlborough has grown and traffic along 495 has gotten heavier. The local gaming group had their annual ASL convention in Marlborough for several years.

I've never been cold in the meeting rooms, but others are.
Ditto.

22 days until TAM! :-)

oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man oh man!!!

Three weeks from today I'll have just finished up my first volunteer session at my third TAM!!

Thanks everyone

All,

Thank you very much for all of the information on Sushi and what to wear at the meeting. It definitely helps calming down my anxiety of thinking to attend the 1st TAM where I have heard there could be over 1000 people there.

Any special events or sessions for the newcomers? :jaw-dropp

Thanks again.

There's the Forum table, which KittyNH runs extremely well. It's not specifically for newcomers, but anyone there will help a newcomer. Other than that, don't be shy.

Don't believe anything 'Scrut may tell you about "the running of the First TAMmers". :)

I believe Kitty will even have buttons for First TAMmers, so that everyone will know they are fair game should be helped as much as possible.

You seem awfully confident for someone who is supposed to be "notsure".

Welcome to the Forum. And to TAM.

Don't believe anything 'Scrut may tell you... about anything. He exists for us to exercise our skepticism against.

Looks like the Black Forest Tim Tams have become a regular flavour, instead of just a limited edition. Have added four packets of those today, and think I'm gonna have to stop buying now. I think I'm up to 34 packets at 200gms each, sooooo...about 7 kilos.

Out of interest, does anyone know what the temperature in a plane cargo hold is likely to be? I presume it would be quite cold, and I could store them in my hold luggage without fear of a mess of melted mess of chocolate biscuit in my case once I get to South Point?

That would be correct. However, and this is an important point, note that your luggage will be exposed to significantly higher temperatures on the way from the airport to the hotel. If you're planning on using the hotel shuttle, make sure you wait for it inside the terminal, where it's air-conditioned. If using a taxi, you should be ok provided the queue is not too long and you don't stop somewhere else on the way.

And yes, I speak from experience.

I land in Vegas at 9:25pm, so hopefully I'll be OK. :)
