TAM 9 Dates

Man, and I was annoyed that I can't go to TAM Oz...

I like Vegas as a location, BTW. Perfect excuse to tour around the Southwest for three weeks. After all, you have to pay for the flight anyway.

And still no news?
Will there even be a TAM next year?

Why so much mystery?. TAM 8 dates were announced during TAM 7. So, TAM9?,... hmmm this doesn't smell right...

From what I heard, TAM8 was already booked during TAM7, but this was not the case for TAM9 during TAM8. Why the difference, I don't know.

I believe it was to do with capacity. Normally they would have just rebooked South Point, but we seem to have outgrown it, and need somewhere bigger.

Given the popularity of TAM, I think I won't bother panicking just yet about if there's going to be another one.

I'm certain there will be another one, however it'd be nice to know as far in advance as possible. If I'm going to attend TAM 9, I'm gonna have to start budgeting for it really soon. International flights are not at all cheap. :-(

If there is, it seems unlikely that either Hal or Jeff will be involved, so it will feel different. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.

I knew about Hal, but no Jeff Wagg at TAM9? What's that about?

Popularity is not the most important part of organising a big convention in Vegas.
Finding a venue to have it at *IS*.

It's already September now. If TAM9 still isn't booked yet, it may be problematic to find any place to keep it at, at the start of July. Which means that if there IS definitely going to be a TAM9 next year, it may have to be moved to later in the year simply due to a lack of available convention space.

The idea of moving TAM to the start of the year, besides meaning the loss of many of the teachers and students who can attend in the summer, would mean having to pull the whole thing off in a mere 3 months (and still having the same problem of having to find a location).
Now that's one thing you can be almost certain is never going to happen.

Since the end of August, Jeff has not been an employee of JREF. More here.

ETA: No-one is saying he won't be at TAM9 (only he can comment on that), but it seems unlikely that he will be organising it.

I thought perhaps there'd be something announced at DragonCon.

It is somewhat annoying that the JREF is silent on this issue. Many people have to plan their vacations long in advance, and may have to bid against other employees for their time off. Even so, in the old days where they did TAM in January, I seem to remember that the announcement went out about three months prior to the conference.

It is also interesting that there has apparently been no discussion about a cruise in 2011.

Just got back from D*C and looked to this thread hoping I could start planning the next big skeptical trip... So no news? :(

Well, at least I'm subscribing to the thread and won't miss any announcements.
