Recent developments in UFO 'Abductology'

On the other hand why would the ET's technology look like anything we would recognize? The sadism explanation starts to look better.

Well, no...that was the point of my replies to you (and others) - they were somewhat ironic ... to suppose that we can know the motivations of aliens - and thus conclude thay are being "sadisitic" for example - would be nonsensical. We just don't know why they do what they do and what motivates them to do it. We cannot conclude that they are absent because we don't see evidence of what we might have done in the same situation, nor can we conclude that one "explanation" of their motivation is any better than any another - nor can we rationally conclude that they have any motivation that we can think of - they are alien!

In fact many millions of people from all over the world claim to have been abducted by aliens.

That's quite an extraordinary claim, Rramjet. You know what would go well with that?

I particularly liked this part of your third reference:

Note: a total of 13,270 Respondents took the survey since 1997 but some were eliminated due to inappropriate answers, jokes, spam, age disqualification (being under 13). Or non legitimate return email address as well as answering a few faked questions which indicated the survey taker was lying about their experiences. Also eliminated were those who took to survey more than once due to the same IP address.

Hard to believe that some naughty people are failing to take these vitally important studies as seriously as they should.

Shocking!

Did you read any of the questions on the MAAR "survey?" I'm curious about how a craving for pasta with garlic cream sauce is relevant to the study of alien abduction claims. However, I can understand why one might want to ask the respondents if they have been contacted by Verge from the Cronos galaxy, to see if he has any new and, presumably, superior pasta recipes.

If the survey data is valid, it is important to note that 82% of respondents claim psychic or ESP ability. The rest of the MAAR website seems to be a pile of woo.

Regarding the first document, they extrapolated some dubious data to the entire population of the US in a way that leaves elementary logic behind, claiming that approximately 10% of the US population has been abducted by space aliens.

Based in this argument anything said about them, including anal probes, sex experiments etc. could be considered doubtful. For all we know we might as well be talking about the motivations / actions of demons & faeries. The abductees experiences could be the results of "magic spells" and they actually never went anywhere. (Remember Clarke's Third Law) However, by our standards they are being sadistic.

As well as the writings and theories of the maligned "Troika" (thus people can see for themselves what these people think and write about) - there are plenty of sceptical articles that can be sourced from that link (http://www.ufoevidence.org/topics/abduction.htm). Perhaps you should question your own perspective for potential biases?

I didn't read through the site yet because I generally avoid sites with such titles. I'll have to give it a shot some time later, but I feel I have wasted too much time on such sites in the past.

It always does eventually, no matter the discussion
:D

Especially when you're talking about gods, demons, faeries and aliens.:D

The aliens must be very evolved when they can learn everything about the human race by sticking a prod up our asses.

Why not? It's where a lot of people seem to get their wisdom from.

All I know is, aliens abduct me and stick a probe up my butt, I don't ask why. I just say thank you.

It didn't take long for Roger to derail a thread about UFO 'abductology' into his lack of evidence for UFOs.

Even when I wasn't skeptical of UFOs being Aliens or whatever. I was skeptical of Alien abductions and Jacobs and Hopkins' stories about Alien Hybrids and the slow take over the world, well I thought it was just stupid. Of course it doesn't help that they are both extraordinarily smug.

Hell, yes!

Millions claim to have been abducted by aliens. -> extraordinary claim
Evidence to back such claims on the proper way would be labelled as...

Is the debate being somehow obstructed by asking for adequate (reliable, extraordinary, solid, etc.) evidence?
