I was going to make that joke last week, but I didn't want to look immature.![]()
Like in Iraq?.
I remember the euphoria when Castro threw out Batista.
We went to the Cuban Embassy on Rhode Island Avenue in DC to watch the "Freedom Fighters" cavorting on the front lawn in their cammies.....
And then the executions started....![]()
.Like in Iraq?
I'm pretty sure a civil war and or two competing sides are part of the mix when it comes to mass executions. A few of Mubarak's thugs and maybe Mubarak could be tried if they have been specifically blamed for murdering political enemies.
I have no love for Murabarak, but it's a crap shoot. A lot of people are viewing this with Rose Colored Glasses.
The record of the Mid East when it comes to democracy is not good. It migth be a case of "Old Boss Same As The New Boss".
.
It's traditional.
Think Charlie I, Louis XVI (image) and Marie, and Robespierre..
It's no wonder the Chinese government is trying to maintain control over their public's Internet access.
We're all watching Egypt. I'm wondering which country is next.
It probably needs to a country with a military made up of common men as opposed to some groomed elite that feels separate from the common people. And a large gap between rich and poor is probably another ingredient needed.
.Or worse...
And how did that Robspierre guy get in again?
This is the "cross your fingers and wait" phase. Time will tell if this is a win for the Egyptian people and democracy.
a peacefull revolution? my god... when are those savages going to learn the western ways?
After 4000 years.
I'm actually pretty optimistic about Egypt. Sure, I know what happened in Cuba, Iran, etc but this just feels much different. The Muslim Brotherhood is the best organized and experienced opposition group but they don't have popular support and the feel of the street is that everybody wants real reform and real democracy and aren't going to put up with new boss is the same as the old boss. I'm very hopeful.
compared to the American Revolution, this one was relatively peaceful.

The big questions are
1. What happens now?
2. What will the world leaders do?
switzerland has frozen his bank accounts![]()
An official statement from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said the Swiss cabinet had frozen all funds belong to Mubarak or "his circles."
I'm pretty sure he was fired, probably by the military leaders behind closed doors after Mubarak's incredibly stupid speech yesterday.
