Kuwaiti PR company said it to try and encourage the US to rescue the country. I forget the exact details.

So was it an accurate claim? Or were the unspecified lefties here correct in that it was a lie? Not that one lie necessarily discredits an entire venture. I just really am unfamiliar with this whole aspect of the opposition to the war. It sounds like a "what, really?" moment. My Topps cards never mentioned this!

Well dang, there it is! I completely missed it during the time period. I can see where that looks pretty bad. You would think the targeting of hospitals alone would be easy enough to spin! Then again, killing babies has been popular propaganda for many wars for many centuries.

We "supported the uprising" by implementing no-fly zones in the north and south. It turned out Saddam didn't need aircraft to brutally repress any rebellion.

It turns out he used them:

... the rebels had few surface-to-air missiles, which made them almost defenseless against Iraqi helicopter gunships...

...helicopters to attack those who try to flee the cities...

[...] In response, thousands of unarmed civilians were killed by indiscriminate fire from loyalist tanks, artillery and helicopters.

[...] Some were killed by army helicopters, which deliberately strafed columns of fleeing civilians in a number of incidents in both the North and South.

[...] The Administration sternly warned Iraqi authorities on March 7 against the use of chemical weapons during the unrest, but equivocated Iraq's use of helicopter gunships. The question of helicopters was also ignored in the ceasefire agreement of March 3, which prohibited Iraqi use of fixed-wing aircraft over the country.
