Florida State politician instigates armed road rage, got shot dead by Prius driver

It says a lot about the state of things there that both of them were armed when they were just out driving somewhere, and then felt that a shoot-out was the first and only correct way to settle their differences. Is driving with a gun and a piss-poor attitude mandatory or something in Florida? I am NEVER going there!

This is why I snort derisively when gun nuts crow about all that "law abiding citizen" crap. One is law abiding until one is not. In the heat of the moment, having a gun ready to hand is just asking for regrets. And I think the stats show that the erstwhile "good guy with a gun" ends up killing a family member, or himself, or gets killed by another's gun, before he takes out the "bad guy with a gun." In other words, this self defense strategy is actually more inimical to health than is staying clear of guns.

I thought an armed society is a polite society......

Another 'meme' of the Right. Really, an armed society is a paranoid society.

Why are robbers in the US so much more quick to start blasting than in most other places? Because most of the 300 million guns overflowing the country are in the possession of their victims.

Something with the chain of events seems odd. First, what was the positioning of the vehicles that led to him ramming the Prius in the driver side door, and pushing it? Was he blocked in? Second, if he was shot through the windshield, how was he engaging in the gunfire? With his left hand out the window?

Obviously they must have plenty of evidence outside of the testimony of the gunfight winner. The whole scenario seems odd.

ETA: Not quite sure how much evidence they do have. Police are asking for any witnesses and those who may have video evidence to come forth, to help with the investIgation.

We'll probably never know because he's dead and can't tell his side of it. Either the man who shot him was right, or he has the good sense to lie about it and paint himself the victim.

Considering his prior arrest for armed road rage, seems like the given story is pretty plausible.

No dashcam footage?

The Right lionizes Rittenhouse (or is it Rittenhaus?), but will likely denigrate, or at best ignore, Mr. Prius.

I suppose there's a grim calculus to this. Instead of spending a lifetime committing a series of unarmed road rage assaults, this guy's career was cut short. Because he had access to a gun, he was bound to remove himself from society, either by being shot dead or by getting locked up for the inevitable murder.

He may have bought his gun at Ned Flanders' Leftorium. Or he may have been dumb enough to shoot through his own windshield. He was dumb enough to deserve getting himself shot, so it doesn't seem odd at all.

I'm totally shocked that as in every scenario where the person on the right is the obvious bad guy the situation will "seem odd" to your standard rollcall of RightTrolls.

Only a matter of time until we discover that the Prius driver was "no angel."

Again it's a flex. It's intentional. The people who spent a year explaining to us how Rittenhouse was the savior of civilization will now act shocked, simply shocked I say, at this incident happened, the hypocrisy hanging in the air as one big chip just daring us to knock it off their shoulders.

It's mildly gratifying that Krotchbumstead or whatever he called himself was a repluglican, and not all that surprising either, but (you knew a but was coming next) he could have been anything: a free silver advocate,
a falangist, a flat or flattish earther, a bircher -- not a Dem, probably, not in Ron Death's gummint, but whatever.

His problem was between his ears. I wonder if the autopsy will reveal a brain tumor.

Fake news! No way a Prius driver would own a gun. It has been well established that Prius drivers are limp-wristed liberal snowflakes who run screaming from anything that even resembles a gun. Therefore, I can only conclude that the Prius driver was, in fact, a car-jacking criminal making Mr. Kuczwanski's actions justified. He's a hero!

I'll see myself out...

The show Weeds had a throwaway line about the local gang leader getting his guys to all buy Prius because their engines were so quiet, you can't hear them coming for a drive-by.

So funny story.

There's a shopping center a few miles from my house. Nice big outdoor shopping center. Got a Walmart, a Lowes, a movie theater, Best Buy, all the standard chain casual dining restaurants because it's got a nice location right off of 95, buncha other stores. We do a lot of our shopping there.

About a year or two back on a quiet Saturday morning someone walked into the Walmart Liquor Store, pointed a gun at the clerk, and demanded money. The clerk hadn't even unlocked the register yet so didn't have money to give him. Frustrated the guy ran outside, but spooked by seeing an onsite security vehicle he walked up to a truck in the parking lot next to the Lowes (the store is adjacent) and tried to carjack it. The truck owner pointed a gun and him and he fled. He ran across the shopping center to the Starbucks and tried to carjack a car in line at the drive through. THAT driver responded by pulling her own gun. The guy, at that point I'm assuming operating under the assumption that literally every person in the shopping center was armed, ran into a nearby Hair Cuttery, barricaded himself in the bathroom, and refused to come out until the police arrived.

The news interviewed both people he tried to carjack. The guy who owned the truck he tried to carjack was full on redneck with like 3 teeth, Rebel Flag decal on the ancient truck, the whole nine yards. The woman he tried to carjack was as stereotypical a "sassy black woman" as you can imagine. He literally could not have picked two more disparate people to try and carjack and both of them pulled guns on him and I think it broke his brain.

Florida is weird.

But polite because of all the guns.

It's hard to think of a situation where Mr. Prius was at fault if you ask me. If he was t-boned on the drivers side then he, legitimately, should have been in fear for his life, even before the gun shots.

I disagree with Warp12 that something is off because in my head the story goes a little something like:

Kuczwanski’s BMW drifts and hits Mr. Prius. They both pull off into a parking lot where Kuczwanski does the whole "lets exchange info, I've got places to be" and Mr. Prius says "there's too much damage, I need a police report". Kuczwanski tries to leave, Mr. Prius blocks him in while waiting for the police, this chaps the entire ass of Kuczwanski because "no one dares interfere with an important man like me" and that leads to the encounter.

//Slight hijack//

Y'all do all know why the whole "Florida Man / Florida is Weird" thing exists right?

It's a quirk in our state laws as in how we release information about crimes. A lot more of our stuff is public record and we're a big state with a big population. If you're a journalist looking to fill a dead space on the page with some wacky story, Florida is going to pop up first when you start looking for something to pull off the wire reports.
