How dare you.

It's a public forum.

Those words that individuals across the world wrote on my behalf, are the reason for my life's work. They are all positive, and they are all I have.

If that is indeed all you have, then I suggest you treasure it. Don't lay it out before total strangers in a skeptical forum. It's just not a promising scenario. Did you come here expecting to wow us with your brilliant insight? Did you think that the testimonials of people who are gullible enough to pay you are enough to win you the MDC?

As they say in my town, what's your motivation?

The difference between them and you, is not that they weren't determined to maintain a sense of skepticism. The difference is that those people are honest with themselves, and inherently open-minded to new information. You clearly cannot afford to practice either, in your situation.

Ah yes, too close-minded to lap up your insipid, reheated pablum. Perhaps it was missing that grain of salt I normally take?

Just so you know, your dream looks JUST LIKE the ones I get from narrow-minded religious persons.

:D Fundies dream of zombies? Awesomesauce!

OK, here's a dream had about a week ago.

My partner and I were cooking Christmas lunch in a strange but very nice, well equipped kitchen. I needed cloves for the bread sauce, and he was trying to find them in a cupboard which was too high for me to reach. He kept picking out the wrong things, some of which I needed and some of which I rejected.

I now understand this thread even less.

You know how dreams never make sense? How the logic is all messed up?

I dreamed I was really talented and had started a website to spread the news and sell my talent. I was trying this marketing campaign, where I'd offer free samples to customers in the hopes they'd come to my website and pay for more.

Then all of a sudden I started insulting the customers and giving them these really bad samples that no one would ever want to pay for. And it was so public! Everybody was watching and pointing and criticizing.

What a nightmare! I kept wishing I'd wake up, but I was trapped in the dream. Whew. I'm glad nothing like that has happened to me in real life. What a mess it would be.

As an expert in Gonzopsychological Dream Interpretation, I shall now astound you with my accuracy:
You have a need for other people to like and admire you, and yet you tend to be critical of yourself. While you have some personality weaknesses you are generally able to compensate for them. You have considerable unused capacity that you have not turned to your advantage. Disciplined and self-controlled on the outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure on the inside. At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing. You prefer a certain amount of change and variety and become dissatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations. You also pride yourself as an independent thinker; and do not accept others' statements without satisfactory proof. But you have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others. At times you are extroverted, affable, and sociable, while at other times you are introverted, wary, and reserved. Some of your aspirations tend to be rather unrealistic. While many see you as warm and fuzzy and giving, at heart you're just a greedy, money-loving bastard.

As an expert in Gonzopsychological Dream Interpretation, I shall now astound you with my accuracy:

That's amazing! How did you know? That fits me perfectly.

And not only that, my wife says it fits her perfectly too. Doubly amazing!

What does it mean that I constantly want to bang my relatives in my dreams?

I wake up like: "wtf dude!?"

Am I subconsciously a terrible sexual deviant?

Only relatively so.

I also have a recurring nightmare in which Master Blaster from Beyond Thunderdome tries to rape me in a warehouse. Strangely, the screams he emits when chasing me about are those of Sloth from The Goonies.

What say you about this nightmare?

I had this dream when I was on a painkiller called Roxicet. I drempt I was in a large cellar with a Catholic Priest who was going to show me a painting of Christ which he assured me was the real thing. Along the way there were the mummified remains of monks lined up against the wall. We got to the painting which was covered with dust. The Priest brushed the dust aside and I saw the face of a bearded man. The eyes were wild and evil. I said "thats not Jesus". The mouth on the painting started screaming and the mummified monks came alive. The dream changed. I didn't wake up because Roxicet puts you to sleep and keeps you asleep. I remember running like Hell in this dream.

Now that Julia Finley doesn't like this thread anymore, let me just say those may have been some decent Jungian-style dream interpretations, but I question how useful that type of interpretation can be.

I have over 30 dream interpretation books on my shelves, collected over a long period of time, and after all these years the only dream book that makes sense to me now is Gillian Holloway's The Complete Dream Book. (Skip the last chapter where she gets into woo, the rest of it is pretty good) It's practical and full of common sense, which is why I like it, though I don't agree with all of what she says either.

For example, I personally don't think all dreams have meaning, though I've heard all kinds of arguments to the contrary. Sometimes they are just night ramblings and might at most tell you a little about the way you currently feel about yourself and the world (since it's your mind that produced them). So Christian dreams will include Christian ideas and symbols, New Age people dream about New Age concepts, regular people dream about regular things, insecure people dream about insecurity type things, egostistical people dream they are mermaids at one with the sea (ha ha, only kidding). Overall I suspect it's a combination of neural firings and personal issues that just combine into strange dramas.

Medication related dreams are just plain weird.

But some dreams are common. They don't have to be viewed as deep and mystical. Some examples:

Tidal wave dreams can just represent a sense of threat.

Unprepared for the exam dreams can represent fearing that you are or will be unprepared for something.

Not enough classes to graduate is another common dream and can just mean you are feeling like you may have fallen behind in gaining skills or whatever to move on to the next level in something.

It's just common sense. Common imagery that reflects common human experiences because we take our concerns and fears to sleep with us.

Like BooKitty's dream - one of my best friends (about the farthest from a religious fanatic one could be, Julia Finley) also has dreams of zombies similar to this. One thing I've noted over the years is that she has a very active imagination and feels things intensely. So she occasionally creates these amazing dream dramas. I don't think there's any deep hidden meaning to them.

My husband dreams about battles when he's under a lot of stress. I think he gets these elaborate battle dreams because he feels responsible for so much.

I have recurrent dreams lately about dirty bathrooms or needing to hurry in order not to miss a flight. The dirty bathrooms make sense considering I have 2 kids and work and am usually up to my ears in mess, with little down time, and missing my flight dreams usually happen when I start to feel like life is passing me by or there's something I've got to act on now before it's too late.

Nothing paranormal required. IMO, most dreams are kind of nonsensical and random and not worth writing down. The others can usually be traced to a personal life issue, no need to bring in anything deeper. When my kids dream about being chased by the tiger in their video game, I don't look for a Freudian or Jungian interpretation. I just figure it's because they spent the previous day playing the video game. If they continually dream about the house being destroyed by a tornado, I would wonder if they were afraid of something scary happening to their home and family.

I will hasten to say this is just one person's opinion, but I've found it to be a useful way to view dreams.

Hi Cainkane1, this was your dream:

"I dreampt I was in a house across from a crypt. The house and the crypt are both in a cemetary which actually exists in real life. I was in the house but had no business being in there. A corpse came to the door of the crypt and saw me looking out from a window in the house. The corpse started running toward the house very unzombielike and I knew I couldn't outrun him. Never actually been in the house and I don't know anybody in the crypt."

Translation A:

To be in a house means to be somewhere you feel safe. Having the house across from the crypt means that you feel something heavy or foreboding, perhaps a big decision, is close at hand. You also say you have no business being in the house so you may feel like you are using someone elses safe haven to protect yourself from some risk. Having the corpse see you looking out from a window means that you recognize there is a very real risk and feeling unsure of your ability to run means you are doubting your ability to succeed. If you are planning to take a large calculated risk make sure the friends and family you are counting on to pick you up if things happen to turn sour know that they should be there for you. Don't wait until you need their help to spring it on them.

(Please pause, and re-read your dream.)

Translation B:

The house represents your identity. Because it wasn't your real house it could symbolize facts about yourself that are eerie and unfamiliar. The crypt symbolizes the bunker of all your dead dreams, severed connections, and displaced aspects and character traits. Your mind has become a graveyard of axed potentials. Since you had no business being in the house it means your current identity is not truly your own. It may help you to stop what you are doing and reflect on who you really are. Windows are a supernatural view of things you are not directly connected to, so what you see is important. The corpse is a recently disconnected notion, another possibility sent to the grave. When the corpse runs to the house it means you will not be able to maintain a severance for long. The severed thing will come back to haunt you. If you sensed there were people in the crypt, they reflect all the activity that ought to be alive in yourself.

Translation A is the best one but both translations are helpful.

"Am I subconsciously a terrible sexual deviant?"
"Ain't we all? "
.
Not in my dreams.. I'm not terrible at all!

I saw a book at B. Dalton's.... "10,000 dreams interpreted".
It was a very -thin- book, maybe 100-150 pages at the most.
Barely enough room for 10,000 words, much less any meaningful interpretations.
I've wondered about the research that leads to correct dream interpretation, as there's centuries of history on the interpretations, but how could it be done in a scientific manner?
My dreams, that I can remember, tend to have unrealistic physical qualities, which I note -at the time of the dream- are such.
The more interesting ones sometimes recur, but usually just stop and go away from memory right after waking up.
I seriously doubt any predictive qualities, but there might be some information in them about changing habits etc. that are borderline bothering me, but the dreams just go away too quickly to dwell on when awake.

I had a dream that Cheick Kongo, the UFC fighter, moved in next door. He built a really cool gym in the basement of his house, and everybody in the area came over to hang out and help him train for his next fight. I wanted to go over and welcome him to the neighbourhood, but I was worried that my French wasn't good enough, and he would be insulted, so I never went.

I often dream that I'm having a heart attack at work, or that I have to go back to high school and I can't work the combination lock on my locker. Sometimes I dream that my boss makes me do jobs that I have no idea how to do, like running a combine or building a log cabin.

I was at first mildly interested in this thread, but then I found Julia's myspace page:

From the About Me section:

- There is nothing wrong with me, thank you very much Generation Rx.

- There's nothing wrong with you either. I can show you that, at worst, you may be faulted with ignoring your dreams (c:

Really, Julia? It's just that simple?

I do not have vivid dreams. Here is one:

------
I am in my office. My spouse calls out to me, "Is that snow or rain?"

I look out the window and reply, "Snow, but it's wet."

My spouse replies, "Huh. I thought it was too warm for snow."

Okay, I'll throw my hat in the ring. Here's mine from last night:
I'm arguing with my neighbor. Then I step out my front door and the 200 foot tower my house is on top of collapses. As I'm falling, I ask "Where the hell is Superman?" Then I wake up.
