And "he could only trust kids" is so BS. Kids are just as mean and two-faced as adults, it is just that adults have more power to manipulate them.
Kids are worse than adults. They do things of such cruelty and depravity that if an adult behaved like that, he/she would be in a psychiatric ward or in prison. Of course, this makes sense. Age, experience and society civilize you. Kids don't yet know the difference between right and wrong and responsibility for one's actions- they aren't capable of it. Children have yet to learn how to behave like sane adults- that's why they are children.
You know what the difference is, though? A child is a threat to another child but zero threat to an adult (unless an adult manipulates a child into action against an adult). And children are liars and manipulators- but crude liars and manipulators. They are so petty, transparent and immature, an adult can usually easily see through it. It's Two Facedness 101.
And since they are such crude manipulators, kids can also be touchingly pure, naive and sincere. As a famous novelist said, children have half an angel and half a demon in them.
So I'd see why a person like Jackson would feel more comfortable and unguarded around children and trust them more.
Back to the OP: Jackson did indeed seem like a super sensitive and thin skinned. As he seemed to be stuck in childhood emotionally, this is not surprising. Little doubt the media coverage he got and the constant rumors (perhaps constant lies) hurt him deeply.
To say that "we killed him", though? I never pressed charges against him or sued him. I never reported he was mentally unstable and/or a pedophile. I never testified against him in court.
