Crop circle debunking help needed

If they don't sit up all night, how is it relevant? And what rate? How many crop circles do you think are made in England per year? A hundred? Thousand? Well not more. How many fields of crop do you think there are?

Do you think farmers will loose precious sleep guarding their farms at night, for the less than 1% risk that somebody will cause them to incur a 10% yield loss in one their fields?

Average about 60 to 70 get reported to the crop circle websites.

Out of the approximate 100 days (nights) during the crop season and the thousands of fields potentially suitable for a design, the odds of any farmer happening to be awake and on guard on a particular night is less than slim and even if they were, here in the UK it is a very serious offence to threaten anyone with a gun or weapon of any kind... So it's just not going to happen and isn't a concern of the circlemakers.

Precisely. I have given some thought to how I would create such a pattern (but I value my other nocturnal activities more), and interference is really not a big issue. One of the tools I would use to lay it out would be a camera tripod with a calibrated panning head. So bring a camera too, and if discovered, you can always claim that you were out to photograph owls, or ... crop circles.

The basic thing is that there is nothing in any of the designs that could not be made by humans. So why even consider other sources?

That was the sentiment, IIRC.

There's as much evidence for aliens making snow circles as there is for them being the work of Tellytubbies in art class. To draw parallels with another on-going discussion on these boards, it's a bit like UFOs: Witches vs Alien Space Ships. ;)

Happens quite a lot, for all kinds of clients. Circlemakers.org regularly get asked to make crop circles commercially, from everyone from Greenpeace to the BBC to these guys:



The farmer is compensated for any loss of crop, the circlemaking team get paid by the client, and the client gets publicity. Everyone's happy.

Oh, except the "aliens do it" crowd, because to them human circlemakers are 'hoaxers' who are CIA undercover operatives who deserve sending directly to hell without any supper.

Oh gosh, yes, very serious indeed. Poor Eva and her friends. Mr Wilson (husband of the mayor of Oldham, IIRC) did get into trouble and rightly so. England is not a place to go pointing loaded firearms at innocent, if slightly loopy, tourists:

Any help is welcome. It seems if I can show "look anyone can make one" isn't the same as proving aliens didn't make them... sigh

You did get responses, from Robotimbo, Marduk, Stray Cat and MRC Hans. Did you not see those?

Basically, it's like this. Crop circles have power over their audiences because they are anonymous pieces of art. The majority of crop circle makers realise this. That's why they don't go talking to their mates down the pub (or the press, incidentally, were the press interested) once their night shift is done.

You go into a field, you make a crop circle. You may have one or two friends to assist you. If the circle is discovered then it may well get visitors. If it doesn't, it doesn't. For circle makers that I have known, the act of creation is enough.

I've been acquainted with several crop circle makers in my time, and none of them were of college age, nor drawing their pensions.

ETA: in case you hadn't noticed, there's about 45 years of active life in between these two ages of man.

I happen to be the age of mid 40's. None of my friends, ever, invited me out on crop circle night. If they had, I would've declined, no duh, are ya sure. yep. Nope , not up for it.
