Consciousness question

But what if the reality is that parts of the world define your whole awareness?
How would you know, if it were outside of the bounds you were aware of? What I'm saying is that the whole thing entails a relationship with your awareness and, that this is a prequisite to understanding anything else. What else can it possibly suggest, except that consciousness itself is a continuum, that emanates from some place other than the brain?

It could suggest that you are wrong.

Seriously. Watch the Blackmore video.

Exactly. Awareness is learned. Awareness relies on analysis of the world in order to define self. This is fact. You do not wish to believe it, but it is the case.

Legions in various but specific parts of the brain can render a person incapable of self-awareness while still able to acknowledge and observe and react to the outside world.

You do not need to understand and conceptualize a sense of self before learning about the world. Conciousness eminates from analysis of external stimuli, not the other way around.

And what have you observed of "that which exists beyond time and space"?

Not what you believe. What have you actually observed?
Is time and space capable of observing itself? The only thing that defines time and space (as a concept) is consciousness.

Inasmuch as we are a part of time and space, yes.

If you're going to say we're not a part of time and space, show proof of your assertion.

I think Iacchus is saying that since conciousness is ultimately what can define time and space, then consciousness must exist outside of time and space.

In order to observe anything, you must have the capacity to stand outside of it. Or, would you have us all believe that you know nothing about the Universe?

Hmmm. . . I'm standing inside of a room right now, and can observe it quite nicely.

Am I allowed to observe a building while I am inside the building?

Our physical bodies are, yes. But not that part of us which observes it.
(And once again, I ask the eternal question. . .)

Proof? Prove there is a part of you which exists outside of space and time.

That is the proof.

That which observes something cannot be a part of the thing being observed.

Since consciousness observes time and space, consciousness cannot be a part of time and space.

Hence, viruses, aborted fetuses, my dad, carpenter ants all have a place in heaven?

As a concept within your mind, yes. Whereas if it's a concept based upon the truth, and the mind in fact knows this, haven't we just acknowledged the mind as the genuine source of objectivity?
