Merged Australian Politics / Australian election

Just seen Dutton live on ABC actually siding with Albanese on Ukraine.

He even said the Trump administration behaviour was "disappointing".

Wonders will never cease.

Of course, then he went off on a spiel about Albanese being weak, and prices going up because of Labor, so you can't have everything.

One of the reasons I am still confident that Dutton will not win is that while the electorate has not forgotten how out of touch and incompetent Morrison and Abbott were, many will look at Dutton and conclude “this guy is no better.”. Albo was been a weak and indecisive leader, but he still better than Dutton.

Meh. Dutton is that wind-up baby toy you get sick of after just the first time through. Now on his umpteenth time through, you tend to not hear him any more. Just so much white noise.

To no great surprise Albo is in Queensland in the face of the cyclone offering any assistance he can. Dutton, Queenslander, has pissed off to Sydney to attend a billionaire’s (Hemmes) fundraiser.

Can’t wait to hear him say “I’m not manning a lifeboat”. Cowardly piece of ◊◊◊◊.

And the Queensland premier is crowing about how all Queensland is pulling together and helping each other. Apart from the absolute dills trying to ride the wild surf or stand on the breakwaters.

Hmm...

No comment on the Western Australian election?

Labour (Centre left): 41
Liberal (Right wing): 5
Nationals (Right wing but socialise farmers' losses): 4
Other: 0

Nine seats still in doubt.

Labor had a 17% swing against it (to be expected after the sudden resignation of the almost cult like Premier, Mark McGowan) but only 6% of that swing went to the LNP. The rest went to the Greens and other minority parties which helped Labor to retain most of the seats they won at the last election.

This is not good news for Albanese who got elected last time mainly because of the WA vote. A minority Federal government is even more likely on the cards.

Does it need a comment? Gina will be furious, of course. ;)

I got an SMS about my private health fund making a deal with Healthscope private hospitals. What was the problem? Healthscope was bought by pump and dump financial predators and is now saddled with over a billion dollars in debt.

What a mess. The basic business is financially sound but capitalist chicanery creates failure out of success.

Dutton says Albanese is weak because he couldn't get an exemption for Australia from Trump's tariffs. What a POS. What could anyone rationally do to deal with insanity.

Well, thanks, Captain "Potato Head" Obvious! Whatever made you think Trump was going to honour any previous deals whatsoever after his abandoning and denigrating of Ukraine, such as his own free trade agreement with Canada, Australia and Mexico. As soon as Trump won, everyone and his dog knew he could not be trusted. I'm sure Albo knew tariffs were a certainty too, but he had to try nonetheless. And now that door is firmly closed, we can go talk more comfortably to the USA's competitors...like China, our biggest trade partner.

Is Albo perhaps maybe thinking about the possible consideration of developing something that might generously be described as a spine?
I sounds more like Albo has figured out where the votes are. It also sets up a trap for Peter Dutton because if he pushes the "I could have negotiated with Trump better" line then he risks being seen as a Trump appeaser.

Oh yeah. I was chilling out at my parents' place this afternoon after my procedure. They still watch free-to-air commercial TV. I think I saw Clive Palmer's ad come on ten times in an hour.

I thought there were limits on campaign advertising.

He is already shown more of a spine than any other PM since WW2 by allowing his ministers to criticize Trump. It would be interesting to see what happens if Trump sends troops to war and asks the PM for help. If the answer is anything close to no then that shows the PM has real spine.

Let him waste his money. The more ads he puts on, the more viewers will know how closely aligned with Trump he is and the fewer votes he will get.
