As far as I can see, Tabor made physical contact with Spencer first. Tabor is a known nutbar. The grounds to fear for your safety are there.
Yeah, this case sounds like a clear cut case of simple assault on both sides. It was a provacative situation that lead to a rather ineffectual scuffle. However, I was addressing you as a gun owner. Simple assault is almost never a justification for deadly force, which is what producing a handgun is.
As I stated above, it does appear that Tabor bought it because he had to have been in contact with Spencer to get the camera in his face at that angle.
Being in the way and incidental touching generally does not justify the use of force. As long as you can go around or even push past (without reasonably putting yourself in greater danger), you are obligated to do so. If you don't, well, you will probably face charges when the cops come to sort it out.
That's why I would never go mano-a-mano with teatrash. My left arm doesn't work that well for defense anyway. Artifical shoulder joint and all that.
All the more reason to avoid such confrontations.
You mean not counter-protest against these modern-day Sturmabteilung wannabes? Aint gonna happen. Those of us who are not raving lunatics have the right to speak out against the slime, and the right to defend ourselves if they try to harm somebody. Bear in mind that these trash-talking idiots actually go so far as to advocate overthrowing the government if they do not get their way. Just this morning, I heard a sound bite of the Republican whackadoodle going up against Reid say that the 2nd Ammendment might be one of two remedies for the "Harry Reid problem." Maybe idiots like her need to be reminded that lefties pack, too. Part of the reason for there being a 2nd Ammendment is so that we don't have to allow these nutbars to own the sidewalks.
No. Just no.
You have elected to take up the responsibility to respond to deadly force with deadly force. Bare no illusions, it is a responsibility, and an extremely weighty one. You don't get to just do want you want to do anymore because the deck is always stacked in your favor. You are walking a constant tightrope between justified use of force and murder. If you show up at a counter protest and end up shooting someone, guess which way that's probably going to go. Here's a hint, you are absolutely not allowed to provoke someone into getting shot. If you show up at a protest armed and looking for trouble, you are the one who is going to find yourself in it.
And, no, the 2nd Amendment has no bearing on whether nutbars own the sidewalks. They are allowed to do that because of the 1st Amendment. If they overstep the bounds of that amendement, then, frankly, it's not your job or even in your power to stop them. That is an issue for the actual police to deal with.
And speaking of police, the whole reason for carrying a gun is to be able to respond when the police can't. However, there is always a police presence at protests. You shouldn't even need one there. Frankly, if you show up specifically at a counter-protest armed and end up having to shoot someone, even for the liliest white of reasons, it's still going to
look like you came looking for the opprotunity to shoot someone you disagreed with politically.
