What to do with people that murder pets?

I'll accept your point when a rabbit or dolphin logs in to add their support to your stance.

Actually, you admitted it's a sliding scale, so I'd accept a letter or phone call from a non-human animal of your choice (as the internet is new even for humans).

They'd never be able to make you understand. Humans have been trying to break dolphin code for decades, with very limited success.

Dolphins, OTOH, are like, "Oh, you want me to balance the ball on my nose while tail-walking on the water? Sure, no problem. Too bad you can't understand a word I say. Maybe we could do something productive for a change."

I believe the Dolphins were saying "So long, and thanks for all the fish!":)

If they were so smart they would be doing productive things of their own and then, for a bit of entertainment, would head down to the underwater zoo to watch humans balancing balls on the end of their noses.

Perhaps instead of a drive-by snide remark, you'd care to explain why you find it so fascinating that I would both hold the view that I did that caused you to respond that way, and also explain why it's such a surprise to find it on JREF.

In other words, I can easily dismiss your post because it made no freaking sense.

You're the one who said humans are "more evolved". THAT's what doesn't make sense, and I called you on it.

You don't think that people are more evolved than cats?!?

Are you aware of what "more evolved" means, here ? Or did you mean "smarter" ? Because in the latter case, of course we're smarter. But what does "more evolved" mean, to you ?

Because your "cool story, bro" response hints at your ignorance of the theory of evolution regarding this. As I said, nothing is "more evolved", simply better adapted. Of course we're better adapted to a ton of things. But there are stronger, faster, more resilient creatures out there, and each species is adapted to its environment, as are humans. Which is "more evolved", and by what metric ? As I said, your use of the term is meaningless.

More evolved as in cats have an instinct to hunt and kill their prey. Humans should be able to control that same urge.

And yea, I said that on JREF. The same place idiots go to spout no-plane theories on 9/11. So in keeping that company I think I'm doing A-OK, thank you.

Ah, so you mean that we have a greater ability to go beyond instinct. In this case I agree. Now, what was your original point ?

I'm not sure they should be your benchmark. ;)

Yikes.
Someone upthread compared the murder of pets to cats murdering critters. Basically, why not murder cats, if they themselves murder rabbits and birds?

So I replied, we are supposed to be more evolved, which was your cue to go at me.

Saw a lady "driving" her car today with two yappy mutts on her lap and or hanging out the drivers window. In any event she was certainly driving distracted and I wondered how stupid people get away without brains for so long in life.

The question is should the driver or the dogs or both be murdered? The dog whisperer says there are no bad dogs only bad dog owners.

Cats should all be murdered no questions asked. In fact people should be rewarded with a bounty perhaps. Why? Because they are cats of course.

Only in that someone else does the killing for us. Keep a cat well fed and it won't hunt nearly as much as if it must fend for itself.

As it seems the cat was shot while out of Travis sight and control, we can say nothing about the reason someone shot it- and I feel that makes a difference.

I'm sorry Travis lost his pet, but I can't criticise the killer without knowing the circumstances.

A friend of mine accidentally parked her car across someone else's driveway. She went to an appointment and when she came back the owner of the house had covered her car with toilet cleaner. The entire car had to be taken apart to clean it off, and the car had to be repainted from top to toe. The bill was R50 000 (if directly translated into dollars, about $6200.)

Yes, my friend was careless but there are civil ways of dealing with community problems. The home owner could have called the traffic department to have the car towed, for example. Same goes for this situation. If we can't deal with problems in a civil and socially acceptable way, well, then we're still behaving like two year olds, only with real guns instead of plastic ones.

I'm sorry if you don't like to be corrected on your mistakes, but it's something that I tend to do.

He could've just gotten it towed instead of damaging it. Did your friend sue ?

No. Her insurance covered it. In my country we don't bother too much with legalities because they are worth more trouble than they are worth given our justice system and its failings.
