Mass shooting at Bondi Beach

The arsonists. Iran admitted to paying them.
Alright, so the arsonists were Australian? And although they were paid by an antisemitic regime we know that there was not an antisemitic cell in the arsonists brains? They were equal opportunity arsonists and would firebomb anything for the right price?

Seems you are trying, rather poorly, to make a case that this singular firebombing is somehow indicative that antisemitism is not on the rise in Australia. Am I getting your point yet?

By the way, in case anyone raises the firebombing of the synagogue in Melbourne in 2024 as an example of antisemitism related to Gaza, it was in fact organised and funded by the other enemy of Israel, Iran.
What if I just want to raise it as an example of of antisemitism?

Because taking money from Iran to engage in arson of synagogues seems pretty anti-semitic to me.

Remember this is the country that decided that the anomalous Port Arthur massacre was somehow indicative that gun violence was on the rise in Australia.

It's always nice to see a bit of humour at the darkest of times, and today's dose is brought to you by Pauline Hanson. Who else was it going to be?

Pauline has been touting Snapchat screenshots touting "threats" of further violence. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15390797/Bondi-shooting-Pauline-Hanson-immigration.html

I don't believe it's going out on much of a limb to suggest that all, or almost all, of those messages were by clever Ockers wanting to drum up extra anti-muslim outrage.

Any actual threats, the ASIO will be all over them like cream cheese on a bagel, and I don't even think the two shooters were that stupid.

I await developments. No doubt Bondi will be super-packed on NYE in true ANZAC fashion. Security will be fairly high.

ASIO? As in the same Australian Security Intelligence Organization that was all over the two shooters from the other day? Like a vegan on a porterhouse steak, even?

I know you said a bit humor is nice to see, but this seems a bit much, don't you think?

The only newspaper that would cover the story is the daily fail in the UK? Nothing in Australia? Shows how serious what she says is.

I found this. https://www.news.com.au/national/po...s/news-story/5d0408896346d0dddfb95dce167dddc1 Sounds pretty unhinged to me.

If you are going to comment about Australia, get your facts right first. In the decade before Port Arthur there were 6 firearm murders of seven or more people, and many others with fewer deaths. Before the 1980s and ready availability of semi-automatic weapons, mass murders like these were rare.

So, yes, gun violence was on the rise and the government took firm and courageous action.

In the nearly 30 years since then we have had Bondi, and be assured, there will be more restrictive gun laws.

For Christ’s sake, there have been posters in this thread saying the rise in antisemitism (which I am not denying) is directly related to Gaza, which is why I worded the post as I did.

Read my post again. There is absolutely no evidence that the firebombing was related to Gaza. That was my point.

No there haven't.

There have been posters saying this particular attack was an inevitable retaliation for Gaza. Not the same thing.

I didn't pull it out of my arse.

...And you can at least acknowledge that antisemitism has been on the rise since the Gaza attacks.

No-one should be saying that it's unrelated.

Here's more:

Potential new game in Aussie - if you don't like someone, tell the cops they're driving to Bondi and have a gun.

Don't you think there's cause to be extra cautious? The law allows them to be detained and questioned for up to a week (rarely used antiterrorism laws) so we'll see if anything comes from it.

The suggestion is that though the younger shooter was investigated by ASIO in 2019 there was no reason to put him under surveillance and the agency just had too much to do.

There was a six-month investigation which ended after failing to find evidence of radicalisation.

I saw that either the father or the son or both attended the mosque in Sydney with the radical antisemetic imam who's been in the news plenty of times before.

I remain unconvinced that Gaza has anything to do with the Bondi attack. I am not denying that antisemitism has increased in Australians, with a lot of young, white Australians marching weekly chanting “from the river to the sea” and other antisemitic phrases. But I have seen no evidence that the two murderers we’re motivated by it, or that there has been increased antisemitism amongst Muslims in general.

In fact I would be surprised if Gaza was in the minds of the murderers at all. What is more likely is that they were radicalised over a long period of time by malicious imams.

It might be news to some posting here, but Palestinians are not universally loved by many middle eastern states.

Yes, it was his association with a radical imam that got the son an ASIO investigation in the first place. That imam is currently in prison.

Really? No. This attack has been raised to demonstrate the rise of antisemitism of Australians.
I thought this was a joke until I googled it. Found it was no joke.
Ref: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-12-19/nsw-seven-arrested-liverpool-bondi-victoria-police/106161610

NSW Police Deputy Commissioner David Hudson has told the ABC seven men arrested in Liverpool yesterday have "extremist Islamic ideology".

The men travelled to Sydney from Victoria, with police swarming on them over fears "a violent act was possibly being planned".

The only weapon they had was a knife.

I think that's right. Islamists view anyone who has not submitted to their crap religion to be a target. They don't need Gaza for that.

We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the Grounds of their pretentions to make war upon Nations who had done them no Injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation.

The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet,1 that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise.

American Commissioners to John Jay, 28 March 1786
