Question: So you?re from Great Brightness Zen Center. Zen Master Chinul was talking about brightness. He said the whole point of practice is to trace the brightness back. So when you trace the brightness back where does it go?
Pastor PSN: The light above you is shining brightly.
Q: Thank you.

On April 7, 2001 Myo Ji Sunim received inka in a ceremony at Providence Zen Center with Zen Master Soeng Hyang presiding.

Q: We just finished a 90-day Kyol Che up at the monastery. The other day I was looking up at the altar and I saw something very strange. I noticed that the statue on the altar is Kwan Seum Bosal. But then I looked up and I saw that the painting behind Kwan Seum Bosal also has Kwan Seum Bosal in it. And the Kwan Seum Bosal in the painting is bowing. So, what I don?t understand is, how can Kwan Seum Bosal be bowing to Kwan Seum Bosal?
Myo Ji Sunim: You already understand.

So in other words what the above posts are trying to teach us is:
Don't ever attempt to have a meaningful conversation with Zen morons because you will get nothing but INCOHERENT IMBECILIC PRATTLE

Either that or: Talking to a Zen teacher is exactly like talking to a badly written AI program.

Seriously, "The floor is yellow"???

But mysticism always seems to be akin to an RPG: do X, gain experience points, and you level up!

Not the stuff I've been reading lately. Granted, I'm coming at it from a Christian perspective but the one thing everyone says is that there is no method. You can't really do anything to become a mystic, it's more about letting go. Another is to avoid spiritual pride. If you are bragging about your "progress", your ego is firmly in place and everything you have done has been to satisfy your self which is pretty much the opposite of what mysticism is about (imo)

Don't make anything!

What is true mysticism?
The wall is white.

...not enough? What else do you want?
Philosophy has nothing to do withh living.

Please do something else, something better.

"Seung Sahn arrived at Ko Bong's temple dressed in his old patched retreat clothes and carrying a knapsack. He bowed to Ko Bong and said, "All the Buddhas turned out to be a bunch of corpses. How about a funeral service?"

Ko Bong said, "Prove it!"

Seung Sahn reached into his knapsack and took out a dried cuttlefish and a bottle of wine. "Here are the leftovers from the funeral party."

Ko Bong said, "Then pour me some wine."

Seung Sahn said, "Okay. Give me your glass."

Ko Bong held out his palm.

Seung Sahn slapped it with the bottle and said, "That's not a glass, it's your hand!" Then he put the bottle on the floor.

Ko Bong laughed and said, "Not bad. "

Yes, one can see how exercises like this are enlightening. I feel lighter already.

So that is the inventor of the bong! It seems he overused it.

I'm asking this for the second time: why do you care?

How is this meaningful for you to attempt to show off by vomiting koans all over the place?

Again I ask: why do you care so much about something which is so insignificant? I thought you passed some sort of super secret level in this Korean zen program that you paid money to some dude wearing what is in essence a college graduate's honors cord, and were beyond all this nonsense?

Too bad Iacchus isn't here anymore. He'd lap this stuff up. Especially the part in the video where the "teacher" says the stupider and less educated one is, the better.

Protip: a legitimate Zen master will help one see past one's preconceptions and prejudices, to "unlearn" some things that may limit one's ability to learn even more. So will a good college professor. Only a fraud will claim learning anything, ever will hold one back from "enlightenment", because the less one knows the easier it is for one to be manipulated and brainwashed by them.
