A Zen Monk was walking down a valley, when a young man approached him with a bag. The young man said "I have a lot of money in this bag. If you help me find my true Zen, I will give you all the money". The Zen Monk said "Okay, young man. Answer me this then: What is the true face of the Buddha?". The young boy thought for a moment and then he said "Every vessel contains an open space. The earth is the vessel of the sky", to which the Monk replied "Wroooong! There's a 200 dollar fee for each failed attempt". The young boy was forced to give him all the money in the bag, which only added to 150 dollars, so he had to also, follow the Monk to the nearest town, so they could go to the bank and withdraw the remaining 50 dollars. And so, the young boy was enlightened. But because he had pancreas cancer, he died the next day and never managed to pass on his newly acquired wisdom. And thus, the art of "hidden fees" survived until today.
