Why (some) Conservatives Hate Sean Hannity

Hannity's jealousy of Rush Limbaugh is so transparent. Instead of dittoes, his audience is Hannitized. And like most conservative talk radio guys, you are either a good ass-kissing American, or it's "Shut up! Shut up!"

Speaking of Limbaugh, I think it's hilarious that he has taken to calling himself "America's anchorman" - since he's the anchor AND the reporter AND the vetter AND the commercial. AND full of ◊◊◊◊.

Then you've got Michael Savage, who calls for the nuking of Mecca and Medina one week, then tells stories about his Muslim friends the next.

All of them are just like Kerry was on Meet the Press - completely unaware that the election is over.

I'm glad you all have so much spare time and such an abiding interest in those folks, that you not only keep up with what they say, but apparently hang on every word...I'm sure their sponsors, and their bankers are glad too.

I think it is important to expose these liars for what they are. Sure we can just brush off these idiots, but we are doing an injustice by letting them go unchecked, allowing them to preach this stuff.

Um, dude, those guys are folks in Canada who fought for the US in Vietnam. If you look at their "About Us" pages, it says specifically:

Canada did not send troops to Vietnam.

I didn't want anyone to walk away from this thinking no Canadians ever served. In fact, more Canadians joined the US forces than there were draft dodgers who went into Canada.

Lighten up dude. :D

Phrost: Anyway, I kind of like Hannity (except his pro-religion garbage) but still found that funny. It's funny because it's somewhat true.

Nasarius: Do you support invading North Korea? No? Then you obviously support communism. Why are you a communist, you communist?
Moron.

An interesting thing about pronouns such as it is that it's often easy to misinterpret what the pronoun is referring to. When I read Phrost's post, I interpreted it to refer to the "transcript" in the opening post, so that the meaning of what Phrost is saying would be: Even though I kind of like Hannity, I still found the take-off on his program funny because it was somewhat true that Hannity and Colmes really do behave that way. That's something I find admirable: being able to find humor even when the target of the humor is someone or something one agrees with.

In contrast, it sounds like Nasarius heard the it to refer to the kind of illogic Hannity is using in the piece. That interpretation did not occur to me in reading Phrost's post, and even re-reading it I think it to be less likely than my interpretation. But it shows how easy it is for different people to read or hear things differently, even when we think we have expressed ourselves clearly.

That seems to be the standard line. The conservatives who love Muslims, but hate them, but they really love them, but they hate them.

Interesting. I didn't even bother to try and get my head around why I was being called a moron for appreciating humor at Hannity's expense.

Gotta love the Internet.

I've only caught his show once or twice. Best line I heard was his intro:

"Coming to you live, and un-beheaded".

It helps if you listen to talk radio in the right frame of mind. My term for it is "Punditainment".

I've suffered through a few afternoon listens of Hannity. The man is truly insufferable.

I'm always amazed (but have moved to deep cynicism) that rightwing GOP'ers love this guy as well as the oxycontin addict. The message these goofballs deliver Is easy to accept if you don't question anything they say. They seem (to me) like something out of 1984.

I can't stand Sean Hannity. He's awful. He make O'Reilly look like the most fair minded person that ever existed by comparison. (BTW, it may be my imagination but it seems like O'Reilly's show has gotten worse lately in the sense that fewer dissenting opinions are allowed. And the Joe Scarborough Show, which used to be a fair minded albeit right leaning show, has gotten a lot worse lately in the same way. I guess the idea is that if Fox is getting the higher ratings then you try to be like them to increase your ratings too.)

And Alan Colmes...I have disdain for Alan Colmes because he is a professiona a** kisser. Kissing the a** of someone admirable is bad enough but kissing the a** of Sean Hannity is as low as it gets. I haven't read Al Franken's book "Lying Liars..." but I was flipping through it in the bookstore one day and it had a device that summed up Colmes perfectly. In the chapter about Hannity & Colmes it printed Colmes' name in a really small font. It gets to how Colmes is so meek and timid on the show, constantly deferring to Hannity. It's pathetic.

I totally agree. They should get rid of Colmes and make it Hannity and Coulter.

[That was a facetious comment, for the benefit of the context-impaired like Nasarius.]

I caught Colmes' radio show one night and he had on a psychic. It fits the pattern though: Jesus woos on the Right, and psycho-woos on the Left.

No, you got it backwards. Hannity is the good-looking one; Colmes looks like a horse.

Actually, I've watched the show about a half dozen times and got fed up. Though I have to admit, I thought it was fascinating when Hannity asked Kate Michaelman (president of NARAL - abortion-rights lobby) if abortion was ever wrong, and she danced all around the question but wouldn't answer it, despite Hannity's repeated demands.

Nevertheless, the show is nothing but a shout-a-thon - I've never learned anything important from watching it. Just an excuse to watch some liberal loony or conservative loony get beaten up by the host, and not all that different from bear-baiting.

Kinda like the liberals who "love" them, but think of them as children.

I had a topic on Sean Hannity here in case anyone missed it.

I used to listen to him on my way home from work because there was nothing better to listen to on the radio. For people like me, who are leaning futher to the right as we get older, it's good to listen to people like Sean Hannity, just to remind us of how stupid it would be to cast off our doubts and actually join the Republican party. I'm also glad that the lefties are pushing to have their own talk radio programs, to cure people who may consider joining the Democratic party.

I'm just bumping this so I can add in keywords in case I need to search for dirt on Nasarius later.

Ohh god, this has got to be the most ironic post ever on this forum. I'll for Nasarius to see it before I explain.

I just want this post enshrined before Phrost has a chance to delete/edit it.

I am not sure that I qualify as a conservative (I have voted Republican most of my life though), but I find Hannity disgusting. It is disappointing to me that there are enough people out there that consider his kind of crap entertaining enough that he can find an audience.

Michael Savage was mentioned above. Based on my limited sampling of the two guys I would say that Hannity is more consistently a jerk while Savage is occasionally a more extreme jerk than Hanitty ever is.
