What if it wasn't?
Would it still not be the culture that usually works the best for people everywhere?
Self-reliance. Without some amount of self-reliance a single individual on a deserted island will die in haste. It doesn't matter what color, creed, or social standing they have; they must be able to be self-reliant. Independence and autonomy go hand-in-hand to ensure one will pick oneself up, gather resources, and do what it takes to survive.
The person who doesn't will starve, and while they may not 'deserve' that end, it will the logical, linear conclusion...so an understanding of cause and effect is also vital to continued survival.
Therefore, the culture that teaches self-reliance is teaching what works.
I think a similar argument could be made for many of the other points on the list. Likely not all of them; but many.
