There is no US competition in many product categories: shoes, clothes all the stuff other than food at Wal Mart. We don't make any.

I think too many people are really hurting from the massive inflation and that kind of may have sealed the deal for Kamala.

Not sure what she could have offered to fix it
Exactly. Inflation is going down. There's not much the president can do. But that doesn't change the narrative.

well, i don't really think that's necessarily true. it's a little more complicated than that. even the food for example, the milk is probably at least regional, or a national brand with a regional facility. but the milk jugs and caps are probably made at some plastics place local, because you want that local, but they probably ship in a bunch from china or india or whatever too for certain products, and maybe the labels say dean's on it one run and up&up the next run are made local and the glue used to apply the labels is mostly chinese. then there's the equipment and the parts to maintain the equipment. the pallets and crates and boxes used to ship the stuff, etc. all made somewhere.

whatever, you see what i mean. you can micro that down forever. but, american manufacturing is around.

Idk, but Republicans barely do an ounce of soul-searching and mostly seem to win off of rhetoric and media propaganda.

I'd say get a guy like Bernie Sanders, a populist. At least to get elected.

Cutting back on the ridiculous level of federal spending would help.

Oh, my mistake. You asked what she could do, not what someone could do. Yeah, she couldn't have done anything.

how would that help?
Can you make an economic argument for that?

No, we make NO shoes. The food was the item I excluded. That is local.

i have no idea if we make shoes or not.

i'll try my point again, which is that manufacturing is more than the finished good sold to consumers. there's a bunch of components to everything that are manufactured somewhere else, the raw materials, and the manufacturing process itself, and the manufacturing of the stuff needed to support the process. there's a bunch of american made stuff in the shipping and packaging, and in addition there's a bunch of other non-food, non-shoe stuff that's made here too.

How does that address the price gouging? If anything, cutting back on the essential services and regulatory agencies will make price gouging easier.

What price gouging? Every state has laws against it which are usually enforced by the state attorney generals. The state AGs are just AWOL?

The price gouging that is happening and execuives admitted to? Laws only apply when those agencies are willing to enforce them

Also, how is Biden or Harris or even you orange pig of an idol Trump suppored to stop the Avian flu that wiped out chickens in the Midwest?

Which Federal programs would have you cut to make a big dent in inflation?

trump will claim that it is going to go away on its own, and wasn't really an issue in the first place.
Problem Solved.

I guess Biden could have flooded the market with more oil, thereby bringing down shipping costs.

he did release a bunch from the strategic reserves to do that several times

Oh, please don't misunderstand me. There's nothing at all wrong with it; quite the contrary. I'm saying the initial new product big bucks should originate domestically, not in China. American workers won't make the lion's share, of course, but a fair manufacturing wage in a Union shop with benefits is, IMO, preferable to feeding (and growing more dependent on) Communist China for our goods.

I agree, but until we can shake our dependence on exports...

But he didnt open up more drilling for oil. Or negotiate cheaper foreign oil.
He actually did make more land avaiulable for drilling, but the oil companies didn't buy the rights.

It's not a supply issue. At leas tnot on that end. The oil companies are well supplied. they are choosing to keep prices higher than needed.
