There's been a few threads on Vancouver in recent weeks and it got me wondering if we could scrape together enough folks in the lower mainland (and perhaps beyond) to have a decent sized get together.

So, whoever's down with such a plan, let yourself be known in this thread and we'll see if there is enough interest (and bodies) to make such an event happen.

If not, I'll just go out and get drunk by myself!

I could possible persuade myself to indulge in some drinking.

About time!

I would like to explore using meetup.com, as well. I've been interested in exploring this. Somebody just signed up this week, so there's about twenty people in the catchment who might be interested.

I could also coordinate something on the BCSkepitcs website and mailing list, if you like.

I've been planning to organize something more involved, like the "Skeptics in the Pub" in London, but a pub night sounds like a good start.

Hey, I would be all for someone else helping out with the coordination of a get together. I'm much better at just showing up and being charming!
If it's all left up to me, we might end up at cheap wrestling night in Langley.

What's a good day? My wife is visiting until the end of June, so I'd prefer after. Most people would have the long weekend booked, as well, so I suggest July 7th or 8th? Or would a weeknight be better?

My birthday is July 8, so I vote for that night, so I can shamelessly turn it into a birthday celebration and scam free drinks.

So, I say we go with that, barring any strong protests from others who want to come along but can't make it that day.
If we set a date now, it can give some of the out of towners who want to come a chance to plan their schedules.

I'm flexible, though, and would do another date, or a weeknight. Whatever works for the masses.

OK: lets set something up for Sat, July 8. It sounds like you're in Vancouver. Where do you suggest? Mid-price? Out of downtown, maybe? Malone's on Cornwall St? Earl's on Broadway?

Malones is a good choice. Nice location, good restaurant/bar style joint.

If we decide to do the downtown thing, I'd suggest Doolins, or Yaletown Brewing Company.

Can we have a repeat event sometime mid-September after the TAM cruise-thingy? My next Van-time is Sep 5-23rdish...

(I vote for the Waldorf on Hastings!)

I like the proximity to the beach, which gives us a barbeque option, too. Weather dependent. I predict it would be hard to 'talk' in Malones inside on a Saturday night.

Also good choices. Downtown is worse for parking, but great for public transit. Does Yaletown have a patio?

I'm officially saying yes, we can.

Good choice with the Waldorf!

Maybe we should go with Yaletown, just because it does have a patio, and there is a restaurant on one side and a bar on the other. And being downtown, it's close to many other places should we feel the need to relocate.
Cool?

I may be able to attend; it depends on whether the Whitecaps are playing that night and what family commitments I have.

OK with me: are there any objections from others?
